A Freeper's Observation: Childishness and Immaturity in Congress (4-9-03)

HOWDY FREEPERS!!!!!!

I wanted to just take a moment to address what was an act of childishness and immaturity which took place on the floor of the House of Representatives today.

With all the stuff going on, obviously not everyone is going to be in tune with other stuff and I decided to go ahead and post this in the chat section of Genreal Interest to keep the focus of the News/Activism section on the ongoing war with Iraq.

I was flipping through the channels and happened to flip on C-SPAN with their coverage of the House of Representatives. They today debated a bill which would limit those frivilous liability suits brought against gun manufacturers.

The bill number is H.R. 1036.

During a debate on one of the amendments Rep. Barbara Cubin (R-WY) made some remarks which apparently caused some disconfort to Rep. Mel Watt (D-NY). Mr. Watt filed to have the "words taken down" which is a disciplinary procedure barring the offending person from speaking again suring the daily session.

The House ruled however that the words were not unparrelentary and as such did not warrant disciplinary action. Watts appealed the ruling and a vote was taken. The appeal was tabled.

Now, here are my thoughts on the subject.

I wonder how Mr. Watts would have reacted if one of his constituents from his district came on to a message board or a talkradio show and identified himself or herself and said the same things that made him uncomfortable. This kind of hypersensitivity by the Democrats is why our nation is on high alert for terrorist attacks to start with.

If a congressional representative cannot engage himself or herself in a debate on issues of public importance without worrying so much about being offended by what his or her opponent is saying, then as far as I'm concerned he or she is not fit to hold public office.

This kind of hypersensitivity does a tremendous disservice to our country and our efforts to set public policy and we really do not need people of this kind setting or holding any kind of goverment policy or authority over the rest of us.

As for the lawsuits against gun manufacturers, this appears to be another attempt to litigate a product out of existence that these people don't like because simply they know that it's something we as Americans use to keep us from having a tyrannical goverment like Saddam ruling over us. This is not about making our nation safe for our children as some would like us think. This is about trying to take away our guns and ending us up as defenseless so that when these Saddam Hussien wannabes regain control of both houses of Congress and the White House they will be able to missuse and abuse the FBI and the BATF to go after all of their critics and adversaries like Saddam did and there would be no way to defend against this.

Clearly, these people do not have the best of intentions for this country nor do they have our nations best interests in their minds. All they're interested in is the reacquistion and holding onto of their power over the rest of us.

That's why it's so vital that these people are exposed for what they are and everything is done to make sure they are not able to set or influence public policy.

Remember, you have to know what is going on with goverment on the National, State and Local levels and watch these people very carefully because sometimes they're up to no good.
