Word For The Day, Tuesday, 4/08/03
4/08/03

Posted on 04/08/2003 12:54:28 AM PDT by Bella_Bru

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Do you have a word you'd like to see used? Freepmail me, and if it has not been used in a while, I will add it to our list.

Do you have a birthday coming up? Please FReepmail me with the date and I will make a special birthday thread for you!

eclat\E*clat"\; noun:

1. Great brilliance, as of performance or achievement.
2. Conspicuous success.
3. Great acclamation or applause.

Etymology: French, brilliance, from Old French esclat, splinter, from esclater, to burst out, splinter, probably of Germanic origin.

Good Morning Class. Welcome to School!

Here is my example with WFTD.

Allow me to be the first on this thread to say I know the Orangemen will be greeted with great eclat upon their return to the 'Cuse. :-)

Like many other people, I have developed an admiration for the eclat displayed by Mr. Baghdad Bob. The flair he has shown while playing out his role as cabin boy on the "Titanic" is deserving of note.

A warning: This column is from Slate, but it's pretty amusing nonetheless.

(By the way, where is everyone? Is this Ditch Day, or what?)

We've only accounted for xsex's absence: She's going down on the French Quarter in New Orleans in honor of the basketball win last night.

Going through the French Qtr?

Going up the French Qtr?

Coming on to the French Qtr?

(Come on Hobby! Help me out here with her prepositions down there! ... and her post-positions, too, I guess.)

Today is the day, Gabz. Those chronically tardy classmates will be new subscribers to the New York Times, Eleanor Clift's personal website and the DU.

What an eclatical idea!

Definition 4, which Teachy forgot to include.

4. Archaic. Notoriety; scandal.

Hi Bella, life is good, extremely busy right now, but it's all good.

How are things in your neck of the woods?

YELLOW! I'd figure xsex is making out in the airport(s) today - maybe on the road ALL day if they're driving from N'Orleans to their house. (But driving - that far, with kids in the car? (Lettuce see if the fratricide rate increased in Missippippi, Alabama, or TN on their way north.)

Hint: Word for tommorrow: Fratricide.

--------------

Hmmmmn. Yellow letters. Looks like my yard with all the pollen down here: 3207 on Saturday, 4400 on Sunday, yesterday it rained - only got the 2200 ppm.

Today is back up there again above 3000.

And this, when 100 ppm is supposed to be "extremely high" pollen counts.

Life is good, Miss Rika. My grandson is so cute it hurts to have to leave him after a visit.

Believe it or not, I just finished plowing the snow from my driveway. I think rather than setting my watch ahead one hour last weekend, I set it ahead 8 months.

I hope all is well with you and your new job.
