Some “Old Folks” here don’t understand the function of Free Republic (?) (Vanity by a “New Folk”)
Mar 30, 2003

Posted on 03/30/2003 12:33:38 PM PST by Diddley

I recently posted an article, How much longer will Saddam last? Want to bet on it? 03/28/2003 9:24 PM PST, and I was soon flamed by a malcontent for posting something that the flamer considered immoral.
I have been attacked all my life by sub-literate Liberals, and I thought this was similar. After a few remarks, I let it go, considering the source and considering that it warranted no more attention.

After thinking about it, I realized that it was not about ME; it was an attack on Free Republic principles, by a tyrant. The reason I say that it is an attack of Free Republic principles is demonstrated following:

The flamer apparently doesn’t understand that we post things here to show what is out there, not because we necessarily agree with them. The flamer misconstrued the intent of the posting [a Liberal trait].

The flamer became belligerent and tried to get my post pulled (apparently not understanding freedom of “speech” – I didn’t say it; I posted it) [a Liberal trait]. When that didn’t work, the flamer tried to intimidate me into “shutting up”. [a Liberal trait]. Not being able to discourse reasonably, this flamer blasted me on tangential themes [a Liberal trait].

This flamer apparently is a Prima Dona and the flamer enlisted the help of supporters. [a Liberal trait]. One of the flamer’s sycophantic supporters told me that the flamer had personal problems and was under stress, and that I should cut the flamer “some slack” Slack I accept. Tyranny I don’t accept. This supporter was using “problems” to excuse behavior [a Liberal trait].
This same supporter accused me of “attacking” the flamer. After several requests for evidence, the supporter finally provided an absurd example [a Liberal trait].

Another sycophantic supporter suggested that it might be better if I “moved on” [a Liberal trait].

I tried to understand the flamer’s position and to treat the flamer respectfully. At this offer of an olive branch, the flamer “slapped me down” [a Liberal trait].

One of this flamer’s comments to me was a nearly 1000-word blast of unbelievable vileness; the worst personal attack that I have ever seen (note that this entire post is less than 500 words) [a Liberal trait].

This flamer made other vitriolic comments to me [a Liberal trait].
The flamer changed threads to attack me [a Liberal trait].
The flamer called me names [a Liberal trait].

I make no apologies for this post. I’ll be damned if I will sit by while some pseudo-Conservatives use disgusting and tyrannical Liberal tactics to attack the principles of Conservatism.

I suggested to the flamer that - because of the flamer's many Liberal tendencies, the flamer might feel more comfortable at DU.

Respectfully,
Diddley

What possible benefit or good can come from this article? It seems a protestation of innocence. The fact the adminstrator allowed the article is evidence enough of your being within free republics guidelines.

We all have experienced off the wall extreme responses to posts we have made one time or another. "Elian" for example. Much disagreement and vitrolic comments.

Learn to let it go. Be glad you aren't in the same mind set as your attacher.

Isn't there enough war going on now already?

aren't these issues avoided with the simple addition of "barf alert" or some such language?

I have a confession to make.

My post, Some "Old Folks" here don’t understand the function of Free Republic (?), was a test. In fact it was a flame itself, using many of the tactics that I accused the “pseudo-Conservatives” of using (although the story is true).
I wanted to see if I could smoke any closet-Liberals out.

In the post, I addressed petty points, I acted angry (while implying that “they” had “problems” or were devious), I changed the wording used by some, I used insulting terms, I called names, I made innuendos, I disparaged their knowledge, I attributed things that were questionable, I insulted them with disparaging terms, I acted self-righteous, and so on [Liberal tactics].

This was an un-called for attack on a non-important issue.
Of course, it was a Liberal tactic.

I am gratified that no one took the bait.

If anyone thinks that he sees himself in this post, please realize that it was a set-up, and that I hold no grudges.

There are more important things in life.
