'Good analysis, however, it might be considered that the stray missiles could have been Iraqi missiles which ignited on the ground if the main airstrike occured on an Iraqi weapons cache.'

This photo is a gem and I agree with you that it looks like these came from the explosion of a cache. I would be interested if anyone here knows if it is possible for weapons like this to be released in an explosion and fire, or whether they would have to have been deliberately fired to escape the area of the bombing and fire in the manner this photograph shows.

It looks to me like they cooked off - were launched by the fire without any guidance (and probably with damaged fins, etc.). I'm certain that they are poised to hit a market.

I've ridden in elevators with photo-analysts, so I think my expertise should count for something. The arrows showing flight direction are backwards.

Good catch, I saw this on FOX this morning, thought the same thing.

Sure looks like the smoke trails come out of the bigger fire.

...just what does "canned" xlate to in Iraqi.
Like canned ham!

One thing to consider is that this are missiles that are ignited by the strike and are secondary effects.
I think that the street is still there (in those iraqi photos) is proof enough that it wasn't our weapon
I noticed the picture in this thread earlier
To: antaresequity
You are correct. Anyone know about when this strike occurred?

Just this morning FoxNews reported the Iraqi General responsible for air defense was canned.

Another pic from the "Gotta see this" thread...

This is another photographer's view from a different location. It is also a few milliseconds earlier. I think that it's pretty clear that those are self-propelled objects and they're travelling downward in these two shots. They're not moving like debris thrown from the airstrike. And since their flight paths originate from the ground, they cannot be American missiles. Thus you are correct; these are Iraqi SAMs hitting the city.
Good eyes!

Thank you for pointing that out. You beat me to it. the improper use of "begs the question" is one of my pet peeves.

My thoughts as well, but in an assault on a SAM site,.
