Who does Bush really equal (in lieu of Hitler)?

Conservatives may be missing a beat by dismissing the Bush=Hitler crowd as ignoramuses. Like their fellow travelers in Hollywood, the peace crowd is not putting forth a coherent/accurate historical argument. They’re not trying to. As many conservatives have rightly said, it’s theater. It’s performance art. Bush=Hitler is ridiculous on its face as a matter of fact, but this isn’t how they’re using it. They’re using Hitler as a cultural symbol. This is how their ideas spread and, unfortunately, have an impact.

It’s performance art. Bush=Hitler is ridiculous on its face as a matter of fact, but this isn’t how they’re using it. They’re using Hitler as a cultural symbol. This is how their ideas spread and, unfortunately, have an impact. Think of it as the cultural equivalent of guerilla warfare. It’s not fair, but it can be effective. By dismissing them as kooks, we're ceding this critical cutlural turf and millions of Americans will continue to live in fear of the Hollywood Hitlers (see what I mean) and their cultural hegemony.

So let’s fight back! Like the Royal marines, we need to storm the city and give aid to the uprising. How about making this a thread of cultural figures Bush is more equal to than Hitler, including a the reasons why the comparison is apt.

I'd like to suggest the main character from one of my favorite movies: The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951). In this film, for those who haven't seen it recently, an interstellar ambassador named Klattu lands his flying saucer on the DC mall grounds and insists that humanity lay down its WMD. Otherwise, he tells us, an army of robot policemen (remember Gort?) will take them away by force. Sound familiar? Ironically, this movie is beloved by Hollywood liberals as a "statment movie" on the need for peace.

So my vote is Bush=Klattu. Anyone else have a good idea?

Standing next to Tony, he reminds me of Tweedle Dum.
