Your Tolkien Virgin Ping!

Read along with a Tolkien Virgin as he discovers and comments on the history of Middle Earth as he reads it for the first time.  These articles start with The Silmarillion, journeys through The Hobbit, and finishes with the epic Lord Of The Rings.  At the pace of 2 articles per week (Mondays and Fridays) the articles will wrap up about the same time that the final movie of the Lord Of The Rings story is released.

If anyone would like for me to ping them directly when I post the Tolkien Virgin articles or my Daily Tolkien articles let me know. I hope that you enjoy them!

Well, he liked it better than I thought he would.

He misses the point of Melkor/Morgoth, though. Morgoth wasn't just some force of evil which could be vanquished. The Ainulindalë told how Melkor tried to weave his own ideas into the Music of the Ainur, causing discord and disturbing the music. Ilúvatar however chose not to remove Melkor's discord, and instead wove his own themes to take advantage of it. Since it was this music that gave shape to Middle Earth, it only makes sense that even though Melkor/Morgoth was no longer physically present in Middle Earth, the effect of his "music" would still echo long after he was gone.
