ARE THE COALITION FORCES RUNNING OUT OF AMMUNITION?

My sister told me that Peter Jennings said in his report tonight that the coalition forces were running out of ammunition because they did not anticipate the resistance of the Iraqis and therefore they have used more ammo than anticipated. Did anyone hear this too?

I saw the Jennings report on the evening news. Showed the battle where the Marines were lobbing the Javelin anti-tank rounds at the Iraqi's.

Jennings showed a segment where a guy was on the radio calling for an ammo resupply. He commented briefly in his usual uninformed manner which left the impression there were ammo problems.

IMHO - During a four hour firefight I think it is pretty common to call for more ammo. I never served in the military but the Marines fire dicipline seemed very good considering they had flushed out 150 bad guys and were making every attempt to expedite their visit with Allah.

Probably the most compelling video aired so far of a live fire fight. Was originally aired early this morning on MSNBC. Saw about a half hour of it on our local NBC affiliate.

From my perspective, I was thinking the same thing. The bad guy is in a building, he doesn't have much mobility and he has a rifle, and I have a tank and lots of time. I already know who will win this battle. It was nothing near to being a fierce firefight. Of course from the Iraqi point, it was pretty fierce. Also, it seems to me that at first, what political leadership which still is intace seemed to be praising the actions of the killers of the POW's. And then, after President Bush said that they would be tried for war crimes, the Iraqi leadership suddenly made it clear that American POW's would be treated according to the Geneva Conventions. I guess a little cell in Gitmo isn't too appealing right now, and the Iraqi leadership KNOWS that President BUSH can put them there!

I was in the army in the late 50's and early 60's. We were still using ammo made 20 years before I was born. The army was, believe it or not, using ammo made for use during WWI. Lots of ammo I fired was dated 1918, 1919.

Bombs, shells, and rounds have indefinite service life.
