Word For The Day, Friday, 3/21/03
3/21/03
Posted on 03/21/2003 1:42:33 AM PST by Bella_Bru
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Teacher's note:
I know some of you wonder why I post WFTD just after midnight every night. The reason is simple. I am on the west coast. If I post it when I get up, it would be late morning for many of you, and I do not want any of you to think that I forgot to post it. Also, I know many of you are irked by the fact that you do not always receive a grade and critique, or that the critique is non-existent. Once again, by the time I get up and get around to this thread, it is upwards of 200 posts. My apologies if any of you are annoyed beyond belief.
supposititious\suh-poz-uh-TISH-uhs\, adjective:
1. Fraudulently substituted for something else; not being what is purports to be; not genuine; spurious; counterfeit.
2. Hypothetical; supposed.
Etymology: Supposititious is from Latin suppositicius, from suppositus, past participle of supponere, "to put under, to substitute," from sub-, "under" + ponere, "to put." It is related to suppose.

I think they were still using real "sheep skin" for diplomas when xs graduated.
That, of course, was long before PETA.
To: TheGrimReaper
i just received a phone call from xshub. he is distraught bc SU is playing like $hit, and he said, if they lose this, they will have to disband the program, it will be the equivalent of losing to Iraq! can you tell he is a deranged individual!

Remind xshub that it's only a game.
Unless you're from KY, of course.

Besides, Syrcuse is still up 8 pts with 3 minutes left.
He needs to chill out.
To: TheGrimReaper
they are WINNING, but playing like $hit, so we are all wrapped around the axle, and i need to hear a diatribe about the starter who is out with the flu. yada, yada. Ok, he has hung up now, 3+ minutes to play and he has threatened jumping from his balcony should the outcome not go his way....RME

Hah! They had sheep back then? Huh. Learn something every day...
I don't suppose I should mention here that Miss Rika got her degree on wooly mammoth skin...

Besides, Syrcuse is still up 8 pts with 3 minutes left. Right about at where the point spread is. So this was to be expected Cuse winning by single didgits.

Well, I remember you saying you were at Pitt with Tony in 1976. What you've been doing with his son Anthony I think I'd prefer not to hear...

over some no-name Manhattan college! Yup Cuse was only favored by 7.5 points.
And no I did not bet the game.

he has vowed that if SU makes it to the Final 4 that we will go to N.O. we went the last time that they were there, i think it was 1987? am i right? the loss to Indiana? but i had friends who lived there back then, and they live in Houston now, so i doubt that he could pull it off.

Oh, really? And where the heck was his balcony-jumping when the world needed the Orangemen to beat the Hurricanes in football these last two seasons?
And I could say I can tell he's deranged because he married you but that wouldn't be nice so I won't say a thing.

Don't make any travel arrangements just yet.
The odds of Syracuse making it to the Final 4 are just about as good as Saddam leading the Bastille Day Parade in Baghdad on July 14.
To: Argh
he is fairly fanatical about SU football and lacrosse, but TOTALLY insane about basketball.

Did you know lacrosse (not hockey) is Canaduh's official national sport? Most Canaduh-ers don't even know that.
