I dumped Instant Messenger because it was a nuisance.
I don't care for it imposing an instantaneous obligation to chat with close friends and family whenever they happen to get online.
I figure we communicate quite often as it is, and anything truly important is just as quickly sent by email. But with friends, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, etc. etc. all popping up instantly, I'd never get anything else accomplished.
