I'm not entirely sure that a Congresswoman is the place to go for scientific information.

I *am* entirely sure that Carolyn Maloney is the wrong Congresswoman to seek out for anything of importance.

That airhead happens to be my representative (sigh)...

Hehehe. I think I'll track down my congresscritter and ask him just how safe tampons are. I'm sure Nadler would love it. :D

Thankfully, I've traded him in and adopted a new congressman (who is, in his own words, "pleased" to be my adopted congressman). Now I've chosen one new senator (but haven't informed him yet) to replace the hag in the crusty pantsuit and will get to work on Schmuckie Schumer's replacement...

Rags were often used or rather they made something that looked like those 'glory rags". They had to be washed and of course all washing was done by hand.

No nice panties to put them in either. You wore a belt. The middle of the pad was padded and had long tails that you tied to the belt. If something broke while you were out in public it was just too bad. No wonder women chose to stay close to home at that time of the month.

Prior to that women would wear a leather belt that was stuffed with cattail fluff or milkweed down. At least you didn't have to wash it.

You did ask…

See? Learn something new every day. While I did know that TSS was caused by bacteria, the first time I ever heard about it, the focus was SO concentrated on the tampons, that I thought it was the only way to actually get it.

Thanks for the info.

The legendary Museum of Menstruation (also here) might be able to answer some of your questions.

I think it's caused by a nasty strain of staph, and staph is lying around everywhere. Literally.

Tampons are a good delivery method for the bacteria, but the bacteria are usually transferred to the tampon from the hand, which picks up the bacteria from a surface (just like with any other infection)-- and the superaborbsent tampons just left the bacteria in place that many hours longer.

That's pretty much all there is or was to it. The directions on the box now say to wash your hands before insertion, and to change them every four hours or so.

How intuitive. Glad that you are sensitive enough to pick up on women's feelings.

Thanks. I was beginning to feel like I was the only female responding to that post.

Your opinion is yet another unfortunate example of the absence of education within America.

And your reply is an unfortunate example of your lack of a sense of humor. I was making a joke. It was sarcasm. But now, I'm not kidding.

I don't know who you are nor do I care. But I will say this. You have no idea what I do or don't know about politics or any other subject matter so before you bite my head off with or "holier than thou" presumptions, kindly do me a favor: BLOW IT OUT YER ASS!

I'm well-aware of FDA approval often being an political exercise and that our Constitution and the UN's version of 'Human Rights' are as different as night and day. So, before you assume to know what my educational level truly is simply from reading a mere handful of sentences written by me, perhaps you could invest a little more time in finding out before finding fault. Fair enough?

BTW...I find it ironic that you would launch into a diatribe against me on a thread dealing with tampons. Perhaps you have firsthand experience with using them. If not, maybe you should. Do you get like this every 28 days or so? Or, are you always this pissy?

Don't bother responding...I'm not interested in anything else you have to say. You're far too preachy for my tastes. Not to mention humorless...

Thanks, pal...I feel better.

I said, "Stupidity reigns in America."

You said, "BLOW IT OUT YER ASS!"

Resorting to contemporary vulgar phrases is typically the act of one who has only a rudimentary grasp on their native tongue, or as in the instant circumstance, it would be more appropriate to observe, "your appreciation for English is remarkable native".

Your choice of expression is a commonly sad example of the uneducated and 'ignorant by choice' American.

Perhaps Congress should consider providing a free dictionary to every American Citizen. It is likely they may have already considered such an action, but wisely concluded the vast majority would mistake them for a door stop, as most Americans have never opened a dictionary.

Fair enough, but you got my jist. At any rate, I can tell you're very deep...but you don't have many friends, do you? Hmmmm...I can't imagine why.

For someone so wise and articulate, it's interesting that the only thing I wrote that compelled you to respond was my "contemporary vulgar phrase". So it appears that while my outburst wasn't up to your lofty standards, it nevertheless acheived the desired result. I like it when a plan comes together.

In the meantime good luck to you and may your personal choice of tampon never let you down...(btw, didja notice I actually used some multi-syllabic words. I feel more educated already. Thanks...)
