Same here, but I do wish they would put subtitles on the screen, it would at least let us know what they are going to be saying.... I think it would be good to, if possible, give viewers the option at least on the DVD (some theaters would be equipped to give them the option, but unless two sets of prints are released it wouldn't be possible in most).

Come on, people. If Mel was making a movie of "Twinkle Twinkle little Star" in Latin, would we need subtitles?
WE ALREADY KNOW THIS STORY. We know what Judas said to Jesus in the Garden. We know what Jesus said back to him, etc.

I guess I'd prefer they just spoke english in the movie. I know what they said, just ain't easy to follow.
Not for a rock like me anyway.

Some historical inaccuracies in the story and photo: 1) The dominant language(s) in Palestine at the time of Jesus were Aramaic and Greek, NOT Latin. 2) The cross used in the crucifixion had two separate parts. The vertical piece remained in the ground for repeated use; the condemned person carried only the horizontal piece; once pinned or tied to the horizontal piece, the person was lifted onto the vertical piece by two soldiers.

If the Cross wasn't true, it would have no opponents. The anti-Christs want to erase Jesus. It started with Herod and continues today with opposition to Nativity Scenes or the mention of Jesus. Even a movie showing the truths in the Bible must be forbidden or modified. I'll see the movie, thank you.

I remember when
Gladiator came out, I saw it in Bosnia, in a US Army tent. At the end of the movie, as Maximus was carried out of the Arena, the grizzled Special Forces sarge in the chair in front of me said:
"In Gladiator II he comes back from the dead...."

Read the subtitles in advance in the New Testament. reading subtitles will distract from the onscreen visual. enough on the subtitles all ready.

what do you mean by Catholic bump. This is the best Catholic story ever made. Portraying the life of Christ isn't a bump it is a victory.

what is a bump.

I don't agree with you. We have a lot of information of what the life of Christ was. It's called the bible and it is also called prayer and getting to know God for who he was and what he did. All the suffering we go through is to grow closer to Christ, for his to reveal himself for us.

He is not eccentric, he is trying to be a man of God.

I wanted to thank Mel Gibson for doing such a wonderful movie. The best of ever of his movie. God will certainly bless your work and reward you. No one has had the guts to stand up for Christ especially in Hollywood. You are the best Mel. You encourage me as a Catholic and as a Christian to stand up for what is right. Even though you are persecuted by others who cares, this is one for Jesus to thank him for dying on the cross for us. You are the best, may God bless truly bless you and your family. Elizabeth

what do you mean by Catholic bump. Welcome to FreeRepublic!
A 'bump' is like a 'ping'. Oftentimes, freepers will ask to be placed on a "common theme" list, in order to be notified when new threads are posted.
For example, you just arrived here today. You pulled up a thread that is nearly one year old. A more 'current' thread on this topic is this one ...
A Deacon's Comments on Mel Gibson's The Passion of The Christ
If you were on my bump list, you would have been notified.
Hang around here for a few days. You'll catch on!
