Has anyone heard the new song "Bring Me to Life," by a band called Evanescence? It's from the Daredevil movie soundtrack (I know, the movie looks like it's bad, but hold on for a sec). I heard the song while I was listening to the radio driving in the car, and I was spellbound by the singer's voice and the bits of the lyrics I heard. The only part I didn't like was the background vocalist rapping in the background (but I found the original version, without the rapper). I heard it again later in the week, and I was still stunned by the quality of the music. I really listened to the lyrics, and I thought that the only person that she could be singing about is God. The song is just amazing, in my opinion. Turn the radio on to some modern rock or pop music station, and you'll probably hear it some time (I know, and you'll have to bear with all the crap on it, but you won't be disappointed) :-)
Bring Me to Life
how can you see into my eyes like open doors
leading you down into my core
where i've become so numb without a soul my spirit sleeping somewhere cold
until you find it there and lead it back home wake me up inside
wake me up inside
call my name and save me from the dark
bid my blood to run
before i come undone
save me from the nothing i've become
now that i know what i'm without
you can't just leave me
breathe into me and make me real
bring me to life
wake me up inside
wake me up inside
call my name and save me from the dark
bid my blood to run
before i come undone
save me from the nothing i've become
bring me to life
frozen inside without your touch without your love darling only you are the life among the dead
all this time i can't believe i couldn't see
kept in the dark but you were there in front of me
i've been sleeping a thousand years it seems
got to open my eyes to everything
without a thought without a voice without a soul
don't let me die here
there must be something more
bring me to life

The band Evanescence is originally from Little Rock, Arkansas. The two founding members, Ben Moody and Amy Lee, met at a Christian church summer camp. They have produced Christian rock music for the past several years. They describe their music as "epic, dramatic, dark rock." They name Type O Negative, Living Sacrifice, Portishead and Sarah McLachlan as music influences. A website describes their music as having a "unique sound that took in elements of metal, electronic music and (probably without intending it) goth rock." They're still relatively young (both founding members are now in their early twenties). Their new album,
Fallen, was just released yesterday. Help support this band! Pray that they don't sell out too badly!

Sure, they've been spinning that tune since about December here on San Francisco Bay Area modern rock stations. Plus the WWE (formerly WWF) promoted that song heavily for their last PPV.

Cool. It sounds like it's been working its way across the country then. I don't know what to think about the WWE using it, but whatever gets it played. :-P

They have produced Christian rock music for the past several years. Evanescence actually try to distance themselves from the lable "Christian rock music". There is obvious influence, but their intent is not to make Christian music. Here is an excpet from an article about them:
Ben Moody made to distance his band from the Christian community. He told Rolling Stone, Were in no way a ministry band. It just doesnt have anything to do with our music. Another interview even found Moody dropping f-bombs. Were actually high on the Christian charts, and Im like, What the (expletive) are we doing there?

Well, the CD isn't exactly new, it came out in 2003.
But all the tracks are really good.

I know now they don't consider themselves to be "Christian." Now that Amy Lee is the only remaining original member, and as far as I know, she's been vacationing and living with her boyfriend (the lead singer from the South African band "Seether"), she is definitely not acting like a Christian. She still has an awesome voice, and I admire the fact that she has a healthy feminine body and a healthy body image, which is something you don't often see today.

Either I didn't know they had a new album coming out, or I forgot. I'm interested in hearing how it sounds, since Amy Lee is the only original member left. Ben Moody did a lot of the writing on the first album.
