So you will head east after the race, go under I-15 at apex, then turn left and take a dirt road that is parallel with I-15?

Pretty much. The big ? is where to get out of the parking lot. Wondering if it matters where you park. I just need to make sure I can go north. Anyway, either north on I-15 or north on Las Vegas Blvd to Apex junction.

You go under the I-15 overpass first, then the UP overpass. As you go under the UP overpass the road curves to the right, almost immediately you see a big graveled area on the left. As soon as you pull off you will see the "road", heading south.

It does have a sign that says, "Apex Construction", etc. After you get in a ways there is a "No Trespass" sign. From the looks of it, all of their stuff is on the right, up on the hills. Keep left. You pretty much do not lose sight of the railroad tracks at any point and after a bit you start seeing red signs about "No digging - Fiber Optic cable" along side the road.

Some fairly steep up / downs the first 10 minutes or so - that was why I used 4x4 in a couple of spots. I was going slow - you cannot see what is on / what is coming on the other side.

Turns out that the road is fairly well maintained - I assume because of the fiber cable. No real "big" washes - I was looking to see the results (wash out of road, etc) of the recent rains and found only one damp spot. I know we have a forcast for a couple days of rain, but it would have to rain heavy for me to not use this road. All rock through the washes, etc. In the "for what it's worth column" - I have been here since 1983 and have done lots of playing in the desert. Yes, I have got stuck - twice. High centered once, got out myself. Found some real soft stuff the second time, big help to get out.

This road is all rock, rough in spots, big rocks in spots but obviously has been in use for some time. I was doing 10 - 15 mph most of the time. Faster when it smoothed out. I was driving a 1994 Ford Exploder - stock, for reference.

This road is very close to the RR tracks the whole way. A word of caution - you will see the maintenance road for the UP right next to the tracks and it looks smoother than the road I am talking about. Don't use it. These tracks are heavily used (we saw 6 trains) and have heard - on the scanner - the engineer call in non-UP vehicles on their property (this road) several times on past occasions (semi-active railfan here). The RR detectives do respond (they carry guns) and Metro / NHP will also if the RR asks.

Anyway, like I said before, you run right into the asphalt access road for the pipeline construction project. Go left. Stop (well, slow down at least!) at the stop sign when it goes over the tracks and about 2 blocks latter you are at the traffic light on 215.

My concern now is getting out of the SpeedWay. An earlier poster on this subject said his son was forced to go south on I-15, even though he wanted to go north - lived in Logandale. I'm thinking it's where you park / which road you take in, etc. More to find out this week.

Sorry for the novel but hope it helps - I do not want to spend 4 - 6 hours in traffic.
