Word For The Day, Wednesday, 2/12/03
2/12/03
Posted on 02/12/2003 12:33:25 AM PST by Bella_Bru
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Teacher's note:
On Monday, I gave this word as an alternate for some students. It's all in good fun, but you do know that I get irked sometimes.
kvetch\KVECH\, intransitive verb:
kvetch, noun
To complain habitually.
noun:
1. A complaint.
2. A habitual complainer.
Etymology: Kvetch comes from Yiddish kvetshn, "to squeeze, to complain," from Middle High German quetzen, quetschen, "to squeeze."

There's no more need to kvetch. As we men knew all along, all homeland security issues can be solved with
duct tape.

To be honest, I have no idea! I don't watch a whole lot of TV, and none at all in the morning, so I've never even seen the show.
Yes, yes, I know: I have no life!
To: P.O.E.
apparently i do! i rented Hannibal last weekend and STILL haven't watched it. there have been continuous showings of Airbud(the baseball incarnation) and Snowdogs by xsbrownie since she and i went to Blockbuster. i can recite portions of dialogue from those 2 movies verbatim.

i don't watch much tv either and none in the AM unless i am home, but i am always perplexed how those shows work in diff time zones. surely CJ would know, bc he is on Mountain time and watches F&F.

Ah, the wonders of Google. Here's the bit of classic dialogue:
"At one point during Clinton's attempt to upstage Bush, Fox News Channel's Brian Kilmeade grilled him on whether he missed a chance to prevent the worst terrorist attack in world history during his own presidency.
KILMEADE: Mr. President, there's a report today that you had the best shot at (Osama bin Laden) in December, in the waning weeks of your presidency and at the last minute you said "No, too much of a risk." How true is that?
CLINTON: No, it's not true. The best shot we had at Osama bin Laden was when I bombed his training camp in 1998 and we missed him by just a matter of hours. Maybe even less than an hour.
KILMEADE: Do you feel somewhat responsible?"
Beautiful, just beautiful.

if i were brian kilmeade, i would play that clip over and over and over and over and over....had to be the highlight of his career!

who hasn't married madonna? or at least known her, in the biblical sense. I sure as hell haven't. I don't want to go ANYWHERE Dennis Rodman(among others) has been.

Not
everything can be fixed with duct tape, though.

Oh, this guy is
good. While looking up that quote, I came across another lovely exchange he had with Terry McAuliffe after last November's elections:
Kilmeade: What is your strategy now? If you use the same tactics in 2004, youre going to get your tail kicked again.
McAuliffe: Well, the Republicans are in control now. Theyve got to fix the economy. If they dont, they wont have the Daschle Democrats to blame.
Kilmeade: So your strategy is to hope the economy gets worse.
I have got to watch more TV.
To: xsmommy
Ehhh...not bad. I gotta take our car in. ONe of the brakes isn't releasing and it is make a horrible grinding/squeaking sound jut driving. When I apply the brakes it gets worse. I cannot wait to see how much this will soak me for.
To: white rose
not more TV, more FOX NEWS, esp fox and friends. they are funny as all get out, not at all professional, more like watching a bunch of people discussing something on barstools. and MANCOW has a segment on at some point and he is truly funny also.
