No kidding-$500.00 for a first offense, levied by the county! The area is mostly ranches, with several commuter communities just over their fences(there are five big ranches and several smaller ones in our community of 4,000-we are just one house away from one at the end of our road). Cattle and wool production are big industries in the hill country, with "winter Texan" resorts and dude ranches (read: tourist traps) a close second. Loose dogs really are a menace to sheep and goats, not to mention chickens. Our dogs stay in the house when we are not at home anyway-they are very protective-the Aussie would attack an intruder, and the Husky shows every inclination of doing the same. They bark and snarl at every knock on the door, and the Husky's "bark" sounds more like a wolf howl. I wouldn't f**k with them if I were a bad guy, even though neither one weighs over 55 pounds. They are a better deterent to a break-in than the fence, alarm system, motion detectors and security camera. The area is infamous for "dognappers" who pick up purebred dogs (even, in several cases from behind their owners' fences) and either sell or keep them, so we protect ours by keeping them inside. Some people are just rotten to the core......Can I please have another Miller Lite?
I hate the thought of working seven days yet another week, but I've got to be on site at 8:00 tomorrow (sigh).....

Another Miller Lite coming up.
I can understand about the sheep and especially the chickens.
We had to break a dog of ours, years ago, of killing chickens.
Hung one that he had killed around his neck for about a week and he never touched another one.

Hey Tex!
Got a front bathroom here you can start on next week.
Needs a little wall paper, new folding doors, some trim touchups. What do ya think?
(I'll leave the key under the front door mat; you can come in anytime. Beer in the fridge, little wine on the console for the helpers afterwards.)

Like employee reviews...OUCH!
I haven't had to do employee reviews for years. Not since my last management job.
Then I went technical.

Never looked back.

My grandparents, who were ranchers in the hill country had a beautiful red Chow who protected us and the house. However, my grandfather broke him of the chicken killing habit the same way you describe. All of us kids felt sorry for the poor dog, but it worked like a charm. That dog lived to a great age (15) for that day and time (mid 50's). My husband and I had a black Chow who had a long and happy life of over 17 years. I think they live a long time because they are basically lazy. They jump up and bark at intruders, chase them if the need arises, and sleep the rest of the day-sort of like our rescued Persian cat, who chases and kills a mouse or rat three or four times each winter, and hangs out, sleeping on our bed and eating for the rest of the year.

I have only had one in 40 years that was any different.
I swear that one thought he was a dog.

Roger that. :-)
I never bargained for managing people. Don't like it much. Computers and routers always do what you tell them to do, mostly. People? Yikes.
But now I'm "Director of I.T.", and I can't afford to quit. It's just obscene what we IT folks get away with, but, it beats working for a living. ;-)

It's a good life, but it *does* have its moments. One moment its Dilbert-world of nonsensical crap. Another moment it time to pull out the Bastard Operator From Hell.
Networking would be alot of fun if it weren't for all those damn *users*. :-)

Hahaha! We have been remodeling my partner's master bath between finishing my house and the site work for 15 spec homes. When we tore out the fiberglass tub/shower unit in his home to enlarge and replace it with a tile shower area and a cultured marble tub, we discovered where the persistent leak he had been fighting in the kitchen ceiling directly under the master bath was coming from-the copper pipes had been so overheated when they were originally installed that they had pinholes in them. The whole damn floor had to be torn out in that area, and the pipes replaced before anything else could be done. His wife was VERY unhappy, and my husband was, too, because I was working after hours just down the road. Your bath sounds like a piece of cake by comparison. Have you chosen your wallpaper, trim color and whether you want to stain or paint the doors? Let me know, and I will bring a crew........
