I think it is because in rural areas, there are beautiful things nearby.... things to appreciate.

Yeah, and folks are not on top of one another, like rats.
Alot of how you live is in attitude, and your surroundings have to have an effect on attitude.
In my mind, I am contrasting the life of an English peasant farmer living in a simple house with a thatched roof with the life of a 19th century London slum dweller.
