Oh, those moments are wonderful. I thought Faramir was testing Frodo there too.... It was pretty obvious that Frodo was lying earlier, especially with Sam's surprised look. I can't quite tell if Faramir was surprised, or if he was kind of pretending surprise. It almost looked like a look coming from someone who suspected he would do that in the first place.

I kind of wish they had taken more time in that final moment between the 3 companions and Faramir. I would have liked for Faramir to acknowledge something of the horrible task they had before them. Somehow, "I think we finally understand each other" didn't quite cover that.... ;) Do you suppose Faramir also saw a little of how the ring had twisted Frodo's will? Surely he couldn't have missed Frodo drawing his sword on his own best friend...

As I think more about it, you could be right!

Somehow, "I think we finally understand each other" didn't quite cover that

I definitely agree with you there! It would have been more appropriate (imho) for Faramir to indicate his change of heart... even saying "I think I finally understand" would have been better than what was said.

Do you suppose Faramir also saw a little of how the ring had twisted Frodo's will?

Oh, yes. Not just when he drew down on Sam, but before that... there's a shot of Faramir looking on with amazement as Frodo walks right up to the Nazgul on the Fell Beast. Strong men all around are cowering in terror, and this little halfling walks right up to it... Faramir had to know there was some powerful enchantment at work!
