Morning all:

The vest and boots are at door, waiting for my ride to arrive. He had the cart and pony, we're heading eastward, to the eastern lands.

It isn't Kingsfoil but it appears to be as rare, it's trifollium stoloniferum - running buffalo clover. Till fairly recently it was thought to be extirpated from MO but it has been located in a couple of places in MO. The latest site is at Graham Cave State Park; Well, it's right near were we plan to widen I-70 so it's off to look for it at the widening section.
Meeting up with MDC and USFWS T&E specialists.

Should be an intersting day, looking for something that closely resembles the stuff we find in our yards, clover but we usually take care of with a couple applications of weed and feed.

With luck we can find some more colonies in the state park and none on the area where we plan to widen. Still, relocation of the plants in this instance is a viable option. Interestingly enough if the maintenance people had made a few more passes with the lawnmower at the boat ramp and path area, the visiting botanist wouldn't have seen it.

I hear the clip clop of the pony and the driver is humming a familiar tune.
"the road goes on and on.

Gooooood morning!

I'm doing smile therapy today. The calls to the county offices did not go well. I was syrupy sweet (I have witnesses!) but the people I spoke to were just jerks. I asked the guy who made the decision to put the brakes on all 'new' permits if there was any way to punish the builder for its violations without punishing innocent bystanders like myself. He got so mad that he slammed the phone down. I talked to the chair of the board of commissioners and asked the same question. He said it was all the builder's fault blah, blah, blah. It was a typical political non-answer answer.

Now, if these folks had any clue how to work a problem the alternative solutions would be patently clear. I've thought of at least two all by my little ol' self. It's not rocket science for heaven's sake. Anyhoo, I think the next step is to go lawyer shopping and a PR campaign.

Have a good day looking for kingsfoil! - The rangers used to plant some here and there where they camped... I hope some remains!
