I turned it off the first couple times I tried to watch it because I don't like violence, but I finally got through it.I don't like prolonged violence (long gun fights and battle scenes drive me nuts...part of why I didn't like TTT as much as FOTR, all the story changes aside...)
But it doesn't usually keep me from watching a movie (though possibly with some fast forwarding). Other stuff might. I think I'd like to watch these 'cause they're classics at this point, but I get the feeling I should watch them before letting, say, my 14yo brother watch 'em with me.

I think for their day they were more violent than most movies. Course, to some degree, they should be. The mob is not all pinstripe suits with carnations on the lapel.
But I would also guess that because of the time it was filmed in, there is not a lot of bad language. I don't remember the language standing out.

I think what bothered me about the violence in the Godfather films, is that hired, business, killing is pretty cold-blooded.
