Thanks for your remarks about the other thread. I don't want to keep the War going either (unlike many southernors). But I am intrigued by the history and I have a great deal of respect for people on both sides. I don't think we can judge the hearts of people of the 1860s by the standards of 2003. Especially since in many cases, our standards are much lower.

Well said. I also find that I am often judged immediately simply because I speak with pride about some of the things the confederacy stood for. Slavery is and was repulsive. Why is it that when I speak for the south I am immediately considered pro-slavery and/or anti-American? That is simply repulsive when I could not be more opposite either of those things.
