Good morning everyone...

Seems like most everyone had a good Christmas, which is nice! Had a quiet one here... I was still recovering from my cold, so we didn't go out and see The Movie as we had planned. But other than that, things were good.

I've been thinking about the changes regarding Faramir in TTT... I still think they got his character completely wrong, but there's another aspect of the trip to Osgiliath that greatly changes the story, and I haven't seen anyone mention it yet.

In the book, Frodo and Sam are able to enter Mordor mostly undetected (well, the Ring is undetected, anyway) because Sauron's attention is directed elsewhere. First, on the events happening in Rohan and Isengard, then when Aragorn challenges him through the Palantir, then by the battle at Minas Tirith. Frodo and Sam are able to walk right up to the Crack of Doom because Sauron thinks the Ring is in Aragorn's hands, in Minas Tirith. The movie changes all that, however: the Nazgul not only sees Frodo in Osgiliath, it sees Frodo *with the Ring* in Osgiliath! Sauron now knows who has the Ring, and where it is located... the whole point of Aragorn's and Gandalf's actions at Isengard and Minas Tirith is wasted. I think that change could be potentially more damaging to the integrity of the story, than the changes to Faramir!
