The book bored me out of my mind so I'm not even bothering watching. :)

Should I avoid the book?

Last night I read the chapter in Silmarillion about Aule and Yavanna. It was the chapter where Aule created the Dwarves and then offered them up to Iluvatar. Iluvatar chose to allow Aule's children to live and have life of their own, but only after the Elves had awoken (I guess you can say the Dwarves are treated like red-headed stepchildren).

Anyway, afterwards Yavanna gets all upset because she knows that the Dwarves will cut down her precious trees to use as fuel for their forges and such.

Now I think that even though Aule committed a grave sin in trying to create something that was only Iluvatar's to create, he repented and was made right. Yavanna on the other hand gets all uptight because some of HER things may be damaged at some point in the future. She even gets to the point of resenting the coming Elves and Men because they will be cutting down trees.

For some reason the attitude Yavanna exhibits seems to me to be much worse than what Aule did.

Heh, I like the exchange at the end of the chapter where Yavanna and Aule are talking and Yavanna is whining about the Dwarves cutting down trees in the future. The chapter ends with Aule responding, "They're going to need fuel." ;^)

It's been 20 (30?) years since I even picked up the book. I couldn't get through it then. Maybe I'll take it to the beach this summer (of course I'll be re-reading LOTR).
