Went to see "Gods and Generals" yesterday with my wife and 23 year old son.

We liked it alot, found it very moving. 'Course I enjoyed seeing an inspiring movie with Virginians as heroes. I was a little intimidated about its length before walking into the theatre, but that turned out to not be a problem, it moved along nicely, kept my attention easily at all times.

It has some faults, tho to me they are minor compared to its good points, g'nad is right, the cgi is way below the standards we are all used to (LOTR). Plus, I was not too convinced by the "Virginia" accents, though I understand they spent quite a bit of time trying to get those right, they even considered how they might have sounded back then. Robert Duvall did best on that, IMO.

There were some really ferocious characters in this movie, was great watching them. On the whole, I liked the casting.

Anyway, although it is not at all as well made as the LOTR movies (They didn't pull out all the stops as PJ did, still they pulled out alot of them), it is very good, I found it to be a very inspiring, interesting and worthwhile movie. I highly recommend it. My wife didn't want to see it, was not interested, but came anyway. She surprised herself by loving it.

It really made me a little homesick seeing all the Virginia countryside, filmed on location there, also in W VA and Md.
