Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Really! - It will be expensive this month? How much does it cost to run that place? - Should you be holding fundraisers?
To: Penny1
I still think the worst is the cut when Sam and Frodo are being marched to OsgiliathYou mean the cut to Frodo and Sam that lasts about 30 seconds?
To: HairOfTheDog
Hehehe....
I think it would have worked better if he cut the number of...er...cuts to Treebeard and made those episodes longer.
The switches from fighting at Osgiliath to fighting at Minas Tirith always leave me disoriented. Okay...what battle is this, anyway?

Well I am going to switch hosts as soon as I can afford to do so, and then hopefully it won't be a problem. Currently, I'm paying $19.95 for one site and $14.95 for the other, but when my bandwidth exceeds 15,000, I get dinged for each gig over that amount. I'm at about 17,000 right now! But I'm going to switch to Ecurb's host. The only catch is, it is billed annually, even though it is cheaper, so I have to wait till I can pay for it all at once.
It will be okay, I'm sure, but it will be more than usual this month!
To: HairOfTheDog
Yes, that's the one. Makes me crazy! You don't even have time to re-orient yourself to where you are and then you're back at....Helm's Deep or Fangorn or somewhere.
To: HairOfTheDog
I freely admit I am not a bot. I criticize when I think it is deserved, and praise when I think it is deserved.
I liked the editing, because a) it allowed the viewer to keep current on so many different plot lines; and b) by switching away from an active scene (like Helm's Deep) to a less-active scene (like the Entmoot) PJ was building tension and suspense; the viewer's level of suspense is constantly being ratcheted (sp?) higher and higher by leaving the plot threads unresolved until the end.
Would you rather he followed Helm's deep all the way through to the end of the battle, then switched to the Entmoot and followed it all the way through, then to Frodo, Sam & Gollum and followed their adventures in Ithilien all the way through...? I think that would make for a very boring movie!
To: Penny1; Overtaxed
Helm's Deep or Fangorn or somewhere. Yes, cut the number of switches in half, and lengthen each scene. I don't ask a lot, just put the remote control DOWN!
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
I agree that he can't play them all all the way through, I just think he could have switched back and forth less! - cover two things with each cut instead of one.
Rather than building the tension for me, the Fanghorn segments killed it instead, because they were lagging behind in the mood. I might have timed it so that when Treebeard steps out into the clearing and gets mad, The first shots are being fired at Helm's deep. THEN the tension levels match.
Instead, we are in a life or death battle at helm's deep, and *meanwhile* Treebeard is still saying hroooom hoooom.
To: Penny1
That's a lot of money! Let us know when you need to have a Penny-a-thon!
My pony is in a *mood* this morning. The whole world is tickin' her off. Funny thing is, she just ran full bore into the paddock where it is muddy, and slipped and fell right on her face. The world will really PAY now. She is furious.
To: HairOfTheDog
Isn't personal preference a wonderful thing?
You'd just better be glad it wasn't my hand on the remote... 5 seconds per scene, maximum!

You must be right....

I can't wait for the Director's commentary.... I want to see if Phillipa and Fran choke him after one cut too many.
To: HairOfTheDog; Bear_in_RoseBear
I'm quite sure that it's a guy thing...
Figures....
C'mon, Fran, make him stop! ;)

I am sure there is a story somewhere of a wife arrested for burying her husband in the back yard, and curiously enough, she buried him WITH the remote control to the TV.

So ksen has not surfaced yet...maybe we will see him after church, I guess. Here I am! ;^)
Yesterday was awesome. The ride down wasn't bad, the only iffy portion was when we went through a patch of rain through West Palm Beach. We got home around 10:00pm.
I would have checked in last night, but I had upgraded my Win98 to Win2000 and my modem and video card stopped working correctly (my monitor could only display 16 colors ACK!). So last night while I was preparing for Sunday School I downloaded new drivers (after I bought a new modem of course) and installed them. Everything seems ok now.
About the Miami-moot, it was a real good time. RMD already told you about the actual theatre experience so I won't bore you with a recap. I will say that I still enjoyed seeing the movie with some close friends.
It was good to see that people I know here are just as nice in person as they are in cyberspace. It was an honor meeting Mrs. Cree and Glen (Galaga King). I liked them both a lot. They didn't seem too uncomfortable with meeting some of those whackos from the internet. ;^)
When I arrived at Cracker Barrel (Mooter Barrel?) and finally met up with Ruthy and Sam it was like meeting up with friends that I had known for a long, long time. There was none of the initial awkwardness that accompanies meeting new people, maybe because we aren't really new too each other.
Any pics yet Ruthy?
