Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

300WM: You are definitely right about the compass, had one in Grand Prix; it was really handy on more than one occasion. I do plan to plan to get a GPS, but need to get the work side parameters worked out first.
It would have been real handy when the trying to centerline points on more than one occasion.
Good luck on the quest for your compass.

I'm actually thinking of going back to bed!
We watched X Men last night. Loved it!

Try some tea? Sorry your stomach is upset. :(
To: Argh
Big whoop indeed! Let us know if you see Sean hangin' around town!

I also am fascinated by maps and nautical charts, have a chart on my office wall for decoration, of the northern Caribbean. I can spend hours poring over the things.
I noticed that in the movie TTT yesterday, when Faramir was looking at Bilbo's map, that it had rudimentary latitude marks, or mile markers on the right and left borders.
Not sure what you guys are up to with your compasses and GPS's. I am a big fan of GPS, tho I navigated for years w/ compass and watch.

I love good maps too...don't try to brush off some tacky map on me! LOL

Good morning! Sorry your tummy is upset, but at least it means I get to talk to you!
I just fed horses and put them out. If Bay didn't hate being left in, I would have left them in.... It is absolutely pouring out. But I could hear him pounding on the gate from the house, wanting out to pee. If it keeps raining, they are going to have to learn to swim. Anyone know where they sell horse life-jackets?

2JM: Actually a bit (operative word here) of blue peaking through. The flags across the street are snapping nicely. From the north, so should be to your place anytime now. Gusts were 32 mph and steady at 11;
Enjoying the Penzoil Cup, I trust?

Gimli carries a lot of axes! Here is a picture of his weapon set you can buy in miniature...

LOL Yes, I like it...it shuts up when I'm not drinking it, which makes me feel safer around the keyboard.
It's very dreary here...very overcast and cold. 24 degrees.
To: HairOfTheDog
HOD: morning, how about sending some of that rain this way, we could sure use it. You may need to get some floatation foam and convert your barn to an ark. You wouldn't have to worry about cubits or that stuff.
To: Sam Cree
Good Morning!
I have a framed map of the Graveyard of the Atlantic with shipwrecks located all up and down the NC coast....does that count for anything?

Good morning everyone.
These mini moot things are very nice, it's kind of amazing what is happening here, with this Hobbit Hole friendship, and everyone actually meeting in RL and all. It's kind of exciting. My wife called up various friends and family after the moot and told them about it, I think she still can't believe the whole thing is actually occurring.
So ksen has not surfaced yet...maybe we will see him after church, I guess.
Apparently the Super Bowl is tonight, hadn't realized that until yesterday night...who do you pick, Bear?
To: Sam Cree
SC: Probably the best use is finding the truck again, just before dark, after hiking over hill and dale. But seriously, I'm a forester (BSF '70 MU) but have been working for an engineering company for the past 28 years doing environmental studies for highway and bridge projects. "we want to put a road in, what's out there that needs permitting" So I go look. Pretty cool job, never the same twice, mostly office but enough field to keep it interesting. Did all the usual forest ranger stuff before switching over to the engineering side.
To: Sam Cree; Penny1
Mini moots are very good!
Course I have gotten together with Penny so often now that I sortof forget that I actually met her here. It makes it more complicated that we both went to the same High School... We might just be very old friends, except we didn't really know each other then.
I still call her Penny though! ;~D I don't know if she calls me Hair or not!
