The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I determine "chilly" by the speed in which I walk to my car in the morning. The slower the speed, the warmer the day. *grin*

I was practically sprinting this morning!

About how many potatoes? Just regular sized ones? And what kind? Russet?

America has a strong streak of hobbit in it, which is good. However, when really provoked, America becomes more like a nation of pissed-off Ents.

GREAT ANALOGY and accurate IMO.

And just like in the literature, folks don't seem to believe those ents exist --- until they run into 'em face to face!

I love that rifle, have one in .270, it's my favorite gun. I suppose yours is in .300winmag?

It's my Stradivarius. It's little brother in .223 is my Amati. They both demanded scopes that cost more than they did. And their own Pelican hard cases. No way would they tolerate riding around in a gun rack in the back window of a pickup.

Something to look forward to Ruthy. I send Myranda out to start the pick-up on cold mornings. She's still young enough to WANT to have that vehicle interaction no matter what the weather. And I get to go out to a warm pick-up. :-)

I like to use red potatoes... because I'm allergic to regular ones.... weird, i know.... i'm not allergic to red (new)potatoes.

Anyway, that's beside the point any potatoes work. I use about 5 to 7 medium size or we would say maybe a quart of cut up potatoes.

Good morning!

I am off today on one adventure of sorts... a meeting that I have to leave for in a few minutes... The route is an hour's drive through rural country, a two-hour meeting where I have to give a presentation, and then return.

I hope I am prepared, I am bringing music, comfortable shoes, a big latte, my binders I have been preparing for two days, my cell phone, and my spotted dog for company. A breakfast sandwich will have to be found on the way.

Anything else I might need for such a trip?

Steve starts back to school tonight (Wed and Thur)! Last semmester he went until 10pm, but not this time...this time he goes till 7:30pm. So unless he stays there and works on school work, I'll only get a couple of hours of extra freeping.

But likely he'll stay and work on his schoolwork, so I may get in a few minutes of evening freeping!

He's taking two classes this time...up until now he's only taken one a semmester. You know he got accepted into the program...so now he's kicking into gear.

I'll be so proud when he graduates...he has problems with dyslexia and they had stuck him in low average classes all through school because of it. When he started back to college the month after we got married and found that he could do really well at it (with some proof-reading and typing assistance from me) you could just see his self-esteem improving. Now I never type or proof-read...he does it all on his own and makes straight A's.

You can't argue with success!

Okay, let me try a different clarification. I use a 2 quart pan to cook my potatoes and whatever other veggies.

I fill it about half full or a little more with chopped potatoes.

Then I put a dabbling of some other thing in there if I have it. (usually a carrot or a half a piece of chopped celery) I just put enough water in the pan to not quite cover the top of the veggies in the pan.

Just a few of your favorite Amway products, I guess.

After nearly being blown into a ditch miles from anywhere in a Michigan blizzard, my winter gear in the back of my Jimmy consists of snowshoes, camping stove, sleeping bag, winter gloves and hat, and Gore-Tex raingear. The snowshoes are the only things that go out of the truck in spring.

And I have needed all the rest of that stuff at one time or another at our notorious early-spring dressage shows. :)
