The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Beautiful poem, g'nad. I hereby dub thee Master Dwarf Poet.
She is the sunrise that turns greys to gold,
makes warm what was cold,
new from what was old...
She sounds just like mine, too...;^)
POETIC DWARVES fits nicely into the keywords....

I'm not suggesting you go back! I know how many problems you had...and I do think 2000 is probably more stable, if only because XP has so much new stuff in it, and not all of it has the bugs worked out yet. Or the worst of the bugs, I should say. No OS is bug free, is it? :-(
Is it lunch time yet?
To: RMDupree
Hey Ruthy, thanks for the vittles....
Where's the pic of Bear et al????
To: Wneighbor
The software only cost me 19.99 at WalMart. And it's easy to use and comes with CD Label software, etc.

It was not working well either. I've about concluded it's the burners. I know several people who use Easy CD Creator quite successfully. They're just not consistant in my classroom.
Of course, I'm not tech support... and that guy only gets here about once a month.

Thanks, sorry to hear about your computer woes. I'm counting my blessings with my recent Dell laptop purchase, no problems so far. It came preloaded with XP. I do not have a firewall yet, though. Do you recommend one? Zone Alarm? I don't know much about them... I just have Norton anti-virus which I keep updated. It fairly regularly quarantines "klez" viruses in email attachments that are sent to me.... I always delete without opening... but you never know...
To: rightwingreligiousfanatic
XP has its own firewall if you want to keep it simple!
Go to your internet connection in control panel, right click your connection icon, and go to Advanced. Check the little box.

You are correct!
OK, here we are! Chicken ceaser salads, baked potatoes (or baked sweet potatoes), sauteed mushrooms, and 3 types of steak: filets, porterhouse or T-bone, take your pick.
For dessert, I have 2 apple pies, 1 blueberry pie, devil's food cake / chocolate frosting, neopolitan ice cream (don't hog up one flavor!) and carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. ENJOY!

I guess it truly is a cruel sport. There was alot of it around in the 50's in the rural area where I grew up, we were often at the cockfights as children, having a good time with everyone else.
That thread is hilarious, though, lots of witty folks on FR, I am thinking of cutting and pasting some of it to send around as a "forward."

"Taxcuts are for Taxpayers"
Saw the above in "Grampa Dave's" tag line. Pretty good, eh?
To: Sam Cree; 2Jedismom
I just can't imagine the fun of the sport. yuk. I can barely stand watching a predator take down game. Even when I am rooting for the lion and her cubs, suffering and death is still sad, and not to be taken lightly. Watching animals slash each other up for entertainment has just got to be among the lowest form of humanity.
Well, I am off now.... to stand and hold horses for a couple hours. At least it isn't raining!
See y'all later!
To: RMDupree
Chicken caesar saladsOh, funny! I just came back from lunch, and that's what I really had!
I'll have a slice of blueberry pie, though! (In reality, I'm having 2J cookies - goood!)
To: HairOfTheDog
Believe cockfighting has been pretty popular in Miami, too, maybe still is.
"suffering and death is still sad, and not to be taken lightly.
Yeah, true.
To: Sam Cree
I like that tagline!
