The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Even in Broward County (land of the Condo Communists), they are working on passing the same law banning pits. I doubt very highly he'd even have a glimmer of hope there either. People are very afraid of them because of all of the bad press.

Wow.... So has it actually had any effect on the number of pit bulls in your county?

And how does someone figure out 50% on a mutt of uncertain parentage?

Where is Melbourne, Fl? What's it close by? How are people getting there from the airport? (and which airport are people coming in?) Taxi? Are all the places at the Castle booked?

Ok I'll try to make this my last question post lol. You have to pay $55 regardless, but the $200 was only for the deposit? Will it be charged on a card and then given back to you after? Or can I write a check and they just hold it. Or will they cash it then refund it back?

OR were you saying it's $55, then another $200 THEN another $200 for the deposit?

A wonderful momento for you to keep. A piece of history, too. It is wonderful that you are appreciative of the military. But, it is even more telling that you express your patriotism in such a generous way. Leading by example, can have a positive influence. My congratulations to you.

Best wishes.

Melbourn is nearest to Orlando. We are flying in there.... As the time gets closer we will figure out how we are getting there from the airport.... Whether ksen and Ruthy and the other locals are there to drive us, and some of us will probably rent cars.

As for 'booking' spots at the castle, we are cramming everyone in there.... there are only 5 bedrooms. the bedrooms we are setting aside with first choice being those who demand a proper bed, or those with little kids that they will want to be able to quiet and put to bed in peace. The rest of us bachelors and adventurers will just crash on the couches, floor or out in the dunes on the beach.

Here are the most current photos of the chickens...I'm pretty sure this is Puffy (Buff Orpington), who is slightly lighter than Benny Hen.

This is Benny Hen (the other Buff Orpi) on the roost and Jar Jar the Barred Rock on the ground.

This is our Black Sex-link Roy, the queen of them all. She has some really gorgeous colors! Green, garnet, and reddish orange, and of course, black.

A dramatic effect. Especially when you consider how quickly folks turn in their neighbors for the slightest wrongdoing. So now, as the saying goes....when pit bulls are outlawed, only outlaws will have pit bulls. :(

And how does someone figure out 50% on a mutt of uncertain parentage?

Beats me! I figure they just look at them and inspect the jaw structure and their decision is based on level of threat. This pup has a pit bull skull, down to the muscles on the lower jaw bone....broad, flat skull, etc. He doesn't pass the test.

Ok, I just got off the phone with the management company for Coulter Castle and I have some firm dates for the balance of the Entmoot money.

I will need $1,800 by 9/30 and $2,230 by 12/24.

The $1,800 covers the balance of the rent and the $2,230 covers the $2,000 security deposit and the 10% tax imposed by Florida of $230.

I hope this helps everyone in their budgeting. ;^)

The $55 is over..... we paid that. I don't think we are worried about re-splitting the paypoints already missed between friends.

Remaining to pay will be the remainder of the rent AND the deposit.

And it will be split depending on how many are committed at that point. The rent will probably be in the neighborhood of $164 and the deposit must be paid also but will be eventually returned.

It sounds like a lot now.... but it rents the castle for a whole week. So really, getting everyone in this way is a lot cheaper than hotels would be.

Remainder of Rent due sometime in the fall Total Cost / Number paying
$1,800 / 20 = $90
$1,800 / 19 = $95
$1,800 / 18 = $100
$1,800 / 17 = $106
$1,800 / 16 = $113
$1,800 / 15 = $120
$1,800 / 14 = $129
$1,800 / 13 = $138
$1,800 / 12 = $150
$1,800 / 11 = $164
$1,800 / 10 = $180
$1,800 / 9 = $200
$1,800 / 8 = $225
$1,800 / 7 = $257

Needed September - Damage Deposit (this part would be refunded later)
Total Cost / Number paying
$2,000 / 20 = $100
$2,000 / 19 = $105
$2,000 / 18 = $111
$2,000 / 17 = $118
$2,000 / 16 = $125
$2,000 / 15 = $133
$2,000 / 14 = $143
$2,000 / 13 = $154
$2,000 / 12 = $167
$2,000 / 11 = $182
$2,000 / 10 = $200

FYI I'm planning on bringing my tent to entmoot. Just to make sure everyone who needs a space in the house will have a space in the house.
