Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Let's do a head count -- how many guys noticed her feet?

I noticed, after noting all the imporatant stuff first. I think she has her right leg stuck out towards the camera. The shot was probably taken with a moderate telephoto lens, common in studio work for portraits. That led to a foreshortening effect due to perspective. As far as the camera lens is concerned, her foot is a lot closer than the rest of her, so it looks bigger.

I weep. I grieve.

For two long years I have had an office on a different floor from the trolls. But I learned this morning that I am being moved to an office in Fangorn.

I'll trade my view of the Capitol for a view of a roof. And, alas, my FReeping opportunities will become severely limited.

They are well thanks. Tami is going with her mom to NH this weekend for her cousin's wedding. So it'll be me and the kids home alone for the weekend.......pray for the kids. ;^)

Ellie was doing better, but she started 8th grade last week, so she is not amused. (Ha ha!)

Apparently she is a size 10 shoe, that's large, but considering that she is 5'10", which is taller than me, her feet would not be out of proportion.

I am guessing that the perspective of the shot caused a distortion, after all the foot is twice the length of her face, which is way wrong, maybe the photographer didn't notice, or maybe he thought it looked sharp.

The old masters were aware of perspective distortions, but usually changed them arbitrarily for appearance sake, if they looked weird, like that shot of Liv. Today though, with everyone used to looking at photography, artists tend to go with photographic perspective, rather than aesthetic. Not that everyone wants to know about all this kind of stuff.
