The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I had to reach out 1500 miles to touch Rose... but we solved that problem!Bear...I know you've told this story before, but can you tell it again?

Finally I moved to Austin to be near him and he married someone else just a couple of months after I moved there. Ouch.
On the other hand, it was in Austin that you met Steve, right? So you came out ahead at the end, to say the least!

Seems like Corin should be here, anyway...Coooooorin, where aaaaare you?
We hafta work on exploding the thread!

Oh yes! Took me four years to move to Austin, where I finally ultimately met Steve, who'd been in my area around S. Texas all along! He was a grocery salesman in the Angleton/Lake Jackson/Clute/Freeport area...I lived in Angleton.
Ping to mby 'cause she'll know where those places are...

My college friends getting married was a big heartbreak, we all drifted apart because of it. My guy friends married overly domesticated hyperjealous types who wouldn't let their hubbies associate with any prenuptial pals. The twits had no interest in their hubbies' hobbies (backpacking, rock climbing, mountain biking, etc) and guit tripped the guys into staying home. My gal pals
became snooty domestic divas who only liked to do 'couple' things: dinners, movies, symphonies, etc. Us singles were always welcome, of course, it was just too awkward to be much fun. So finally we all went our separate ways. Fortunately I found a great fella a few years later and haven't looked back.
And Rosie, if you thing the weddings are bad- just wait till the baby showers. *ACK!*

Did you get my e-mail, btw?
To: Lil'freeper
And Rosie, if you thing the weddings are bad- just wait till the baby showers. *ACK!* Sigh...trouble is, she's moving (or moved, I guess I should say) to West Virginia...so I probably won't get to go to any baby showers...or see much of her again. And even by that afternoon, I felt like we belonged to two different worlds. But at least we can still talk. The guy friends I've had that got married...I ended up losing touch with them, for the most part. Too awkward to really talk to them.
I don't get women that don't let guys enjoy some hobbies, though, whether they themselves participate in them or not. Maybe that's just because I don't know what it's like to have kids...but even so, Mom never tried to keep Dad from music - for the most part it was just one night a week or so - and I think he was a better husband and father for having that time and hobby of his own. /rant

I did!
I don't know if the Chaplain knows him...did the soldier go back after he was shot? The Chaplain got there in Feb, I think...this guy was shot in Dec...
I'll send the link to him...see what he says...

If he doesn't get the link until later today, he'll need to click on "A Heartfelt Thanks" or whatever it was - they put up a new picture every day.
Yeah, I think he returned to the states after he was shot, so probably the Chaplain didn't know him...unless he knew him from before they were deployed. I don't know how big that unit is, but I'm thinkin' pretty big!
To: RosieCotton
I think the problem with the hobbies was jealously over the old friendships. We were a pretty tight-knit group. Religious, moral, lots of hilarious adventures, many stories to tell. I can see how a girl could feel threatened by that, I just don't think much of how they chose to deal with it.

Yeah...I suppose that could be. That was why I pretty much didn't try to keep in touch with some of my old mountain biking buddies. I don't know that their wives would have been at all jealous, but I didn't want to cause any hard feelings.
I'm thinking more in terms of women who pout if their husband wants to go out with the guys once in awhile...or has one or two hobbies that don't involve her. One of the guys who plays music with us comes sporadically because he's constantly being sent on guilt trips for coming.
And yeah, I do think there should be a trade-off. Dad would babysit so Mom could go out with friends sometimes. And Friday night was date night for them for YEARS - they'd go out for dinner (OK, so a lot of times it was just McD's) and talk.

Family got out the door on time this morning for Vacation Bible School. Which, of course, meant that I didn't.
There will be no imploding of this thread without me!

Thought of y'all this mornin'. Choir did a rather up tempo praise and worship concert/service. Then we had an all church picnic w/BBQ and baked beans. It was all a pentecostal dwarf could ask for... Well now, I'd have to say we had services just about the same yesterday! Cept my church had the food bash on Saturday. Had an evangelist in for 3 days so it was hoppin' mornin' and evenin' yesterday. No snakes though. I think that was Saturday night when I missed and went to see Sean Connery instead.

There will be no imploding of this thread without me! This has previously not been a series concern to me. I figgered I'd be here for the big implosion (mmmmmm...implosion). But since I'm leavin' fer vacation on Saturday and will be gone thru the following Saturday, I'm gettin' askeered that y'all would up and leave me.
What's the plan? IS there a plan?
(Maybe this has been their plan all along...)
To: Corin Stormhands
But this was cool 'cause they told everyone to come in jeans and they just made it a real casual event. They have to tell people that?
