Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Well not so big an operation it's inhumane. I can't believe some of the stories I read. There is a place right now that is in trouble and has to get rid of 15 MILLION chickens! Layers. Can you fathom destroying 15 million chickens? From what I understand, layer chickens in egg plants rarely have feathers and don't know how to stand up.

Just makes me sick. I mean, I know they are just animals, and not very smart ones at that, but still...God put us in charge of them, to treat them humanely and use them as we need them in a humane way. I think it's a dreadful breech of stewardship!

I love fried chicken, but I probably don't want to know how they raise them. At least their lives are short...8 weeks...not years of long drawn-out confinement like a layer.

Grain-fed free-range layers command a higher price for their eggs too...the ones in Reasor's grocery store are $2.25 a dozen. Now I can't afford that, but it sure would be a good selling point if I had a "backyard" operation for local folks...I would charge a more reasonable price.

Fairly, I'd say...a lot of people fly from wherever they were stationed to Ramstein AB, and then from Ramstein to the states. Very cool story, BTW!

The daughter of one of the ladies in my Sunday school class found out she was going home sometime this last week...they approached her in mess line and said "Get your stuff together, you leave in a hour and a half." She has been in Kuwait since before the war started. They said she was flying first to Germany, so my suspicions that this was standard procedure were almost verified.

Twice in the past three days I've tried to call from my cell phone and couldn't get through for over 30 minutes (actually Friday was more like an hour and fifteen minutes).

Not sure what the solution is.

Get them a backgammon room.

Maybe you'll get your flag today and be home to get it...no finding it sitting on the porch. I came home from fishing and found mine sitting on the doorstep, on a Saturday...

I was happy on one hand but also relieved that it wasn't stolen, it wasn't even hidden in the box I have sitting behind my shrub right there, just for such items. Nope, just leaning against my front door, obvious to any that drove by. All Day Long.
