Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I don't know...it would be fun though! I'll talk to Steve about it.
We don't have an ice cream maker! Steve likes the old fashioned crank kind and we can't find one! Well, we found one at the farm supply store for $140! WHAT???
I made my frozen custard in a little bitty maker called Donvier that I've had since I was single...the boys made theirs inside a coffee can, inside a bigger coffee can! It worked great! Theirs was just plain vanilla ice cream, though...mine included egg yokes and was cooked then cooled overnight before freezing! (insert drooling sounds)
I'm on the lookout for a reasonably priced crank maker, though...if we don't get down there before the blackberries end, freeze some! Mmmmm! I have about 3lbs of blueberries left, frozen.

A shot of the machine running would perhaps tell the story.... although... it would look that same whether it were running or not.... perhaps a view into the tub would better tell the progress.
I haven't started folding yet.... hehe.... distractions!

I'm all alone in the Hobbit Hole, feeling dispondent that I missed the age of the crank ice cream maker...
Might as well rant about something.
What is the deal with this term "Gone Missing". Since when did we here in America start saying this? All my life it seems whenever someone was missing, they were just that...missing. No one ever presumed they'd gone somewhere to be missing. Jon Benet didn't go anywhere...she was missing for a while, but she right there in the celler of her own house...
Nowadays, everyone is likely to say "Did you hear about old Joe? He went missing last week." Likely old Joe went nowhere, his wife likely got fed up with him, did him in and stuffed in him the closet. He went nowhere. He's gone no where...he's missing, but right where he was.
Ok...that's it for my rant.

Thanks for the various "pings"...really appreciate knowing what's going on.
I'm all muddled headed again, haven't fully recovered from "The Sweat Feast" yesterday and last night. I think I sweated off 10 pounds. Great concert though.
The knives sound like a great idea. Fun and useful...the guys over there need alot of both. I'm in for two...what do I do?
Concerning the packages to "Renegade Chaplain" and his guys, it seems we do this on our own, but I can't find an address. I would like to send a package of "Rings" books and whatever you all feel would be helpful...again, what do I do?
Trying to nail down commitments and other business for the week. Will be in and out on the thread...REALLY NOT WITH IT. I think I'm getting too old for these outdoor concerts, but, gosh, it was a great one and worth it. I'd do it again and again and again...
Hope you and all the Hobbits are well.

The deal with the chaplain is that he contacted the people that contributed when we were doing the contributing..and now they can contact him. No one is contributing (for the time being) because he is in the process of getting ready to come home. A few of those that he gave his address to are sending some "last minute" items, but just getting them in under the wire.
So don't worry about getting something to him...we'll be dealing with a new chaplain soon and we'll get that info to you asap!

Hullo...like your rant and agree, but I feel like "I have gone missing" and haven't caught on.
Thanks for the info. Would like to do something when you do. I am very upset about what is going on with the libs. with their media push, the "let's win in 2004 at any cost". They don't seem to care about how this is effecting our guys over seas and their families. I guess this is my rant.
To: 2Jedismom
affecting...sorry
To: mstar
That's ok! LOL
The way it all worked out with the chaplain was that people here in the Hole sent me funds or items and I shipped them to him with their address...so it was up to him to respond to them and I never infringed upon his privacy by passing out his address. (He was a friend of a friend of mine.)
But that is all coming to an end now that he is coming home.

Good Afternoon All;
G'nad, thank you for the fine words, however, Sir - you are the officer and the gentleman. I truly admire your personal courage and commitment to your family. The pleasure was mine, the ax, well, what could be more appropriate.
Mrsg'nad, let's keep the fingers crossed on the flash at night caught the moment. Atl-Atl poised, the target down range, just moments from being skewered by the 5 ft. long dart.
When G'nad mentioned "non-dig" what he he was too much a gentleman to say was $4.00 Disposable, lol. (right OT?)
A few details on the quiver, a fellow Mo-Jammer, Sal, from Cal. gifted me the quiver. It is Yuca cactus, which as been cut, hollowed out and dried. The bottom is covered with rawhide, it has beadwork around the top, and antler button with turkey feathers. The arrows are bamboo, with self-nocks and turkey feather fletching, field points. Each is truly a work of a fine craftsman. All that saw it were clamoring for one- Legolas: eat your heart out.
The bow in my hand in the gifting picture is bamboo backed osage. 68" tall. That is the bow I shot in the clout shoot. The recurve is osage, with a walnut handle and leather arrow shelf. That is the one I used when I shot the 3-D. I had arrived back at the pavilion end when I ran into the G'nads.
The dwarflings are simply super kids. No other way to describe them. Thenewboy will doubtless follow in their footsteps but in the meantime is a scene stealer where ever he goes.
Should the photos turn out, I can forward them for posting, they make very easy subjects to photograph.
The Cal. Boys, have been dropped off at the airport, the truck is unpacked, and we are fed. (with redmeat off the bone and a Boulevard unfiltered wheat brewski for LSAggie.)
I'll be back in few, the A/C is humming, the eyes grow heavy, the couch is calling my name and this post has rambled enough. Samantha will get her constitutional when the sun gets closer to setting.

Hullo! - As 2J said.... we are between projects now.... the chaplain is coming home... We aren't sending packages there now unless and until the new chaplain contacts us to continue! The knives are going to the platoon WN's son in law is in inside Iraq.... They are two different projects!
To participate in the knives thing.... you can paypal or get the snail mail address from Wneighbor. FRMail her for details.... The ping today was for additional knives we can buy for ourselves through 300winmag in addition to that if we like... Clear as mud? Knowing what you know now, maybe 56,344 will make more sense, and the links at the bottom of that. If not, let me know! :~D

That's totaly understandable and wise.
To: mstar
Thank you! You will note that all of the Hobbit Hole Dwellers are careful not to refer to him by his name, we all call him "The Chaplain" or "The Renegade Chaplain" or "The RC" Even on Ecurb's webpage, although you can see his name in a few pictures, Ecurb never refers to him by name.
I'm very grateful for their diligence!
