Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Hey, I have something that I want to sort of ask... I don't really want to ask but several of you said you'd like to help so I'm letting this need be known.
300winmag has been helping me quite a bit with the packages to my son-in-law's platoon. We got an email yesterday from him commenting on the usefulness of the knife winmag sent him. The army doesn't provide them and the guys really need them. It's not just a luxury item like the snack things I send it's something that might actually save a life.
Thing is, 300winmag found a deal on enough to supply the whole platoon today. He can get nice folding lockback knives that are good quality for $17 each. He has already ordered 26 of them and is willing to pay for them. But, I want to help also. I can about scrape up enough AFTER payday to pay for 1 or 2 but that's all. Is anybody out there interested in helping with this effort?
Please don't feel pressured or anything. I am just so overwhelmed that this is being done and I hate for him to bear so much of it. Although.... he did tell me that he intends too. He is also looking into the possibility of having the Hobbit Hole URL engraved into each blade and we are hoping these will be family heirlooms that the guys will hand down to their kids etc.
Finally, I'm going to copy and paste the email I got from s-i-l yesterday when I mentioned the possibility of getting knives for the rest of the platoon.
"You guys are awsome. Me and some friends of mine were reading your letter and when they saw the comment about the knives the general consensus was"heck yeah!". I don't think anything would get confiscated if it is packed clever enough. It took me acouple of days just to find the knife I was sent! I cna promise you the crew would be more than gratefull for anything they would get. We really don't want to impose though. You are all taking such great care of us. We really appreciate it. Any old magazines of any kind are read by everybody. And as I said before nothing goes to waste. So anything sent would be appreciated greatly. Gotta go we are responding to a situation. Love Tom
Winmag, I hope you don't mind that I asked this. Or the way I asked. I really appreciate ALL that you do and I know your heart is really in it. Thanks.

Okay, here's what 300winmag said so far. He doesn't want to handle money from everyone. He asked me to do that. Okay, that's fair, so I will do like 2J and get myself an accountable accounting system going here in case anybody wants to know. If you send paypal or other to me then what I am supposed to do is paypal the total amount to Winmag. That way he does the ordering/engraving and that stuff. I paypal him a total and he ships the knives to me.
As far as getting them to Tom.... we can chat sometime about that. He isn't sure yet about the engraving. He's going to be checking on that.
