The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I never did respond to your computer issue, did I? I would check first to make sure all cables are snugged down (technical term, don't ya know!), maybe update drivers (though it sounds like a hardware issue), and then, given the option, try a different monitor on your PC or a different PC on your monitor. Do you have a friend nearby who could try that?

Is it still under warranty?

My whistles are in MA now. :-) However, I don't get 'em until Monday - three whole days! :-( Wish I hadn't ordered them so there was a weekend in the middle of their shipping time!

Grrrrr....I hate it when that happens!

What I hate is that they COULD have been here today, if UPS didn't run the way it did! They've been in MA for HOURS, and we aren't far away. But I guess I'm probably not their first priority.

BTW, although their prices were a little higher than Elderly, I liked my dealings with The Whistle Shop. Actually got a couple of real e-mails from them! WOW! Selection is really good, too. Which I guess isn't totally a good thing...I could have saved money if they hadn't had so many tempting goodies!

So is "Signs" specifically a Christian movie, or could a Jewish person enjoy it, too?

It is nice to have you aboard, Festa, thanks for the reply.

Maybe they just haven't updated their tracking yet.

I like The Whistle Shop too but they didn't have the Shaw low G. :)

Yes, I think so! You don't have to be Christian or religious to enjoy it at all. If you are religious then you will get the deeper meaning behind it. That God controls everything, and there is a purpose behind all things, even the bad. The denomination or religion of his character doesn't really affect the moral of the story so I think anyone could enjoy it. Of course you get more out of it if you actually believe in God.

Not bad so far! Very relaxed, and I'll be doing pretty much just what I like doing.

I'll feel better when I know the ropes a bit better and can be more useful, but that would be the case with any job.

And I've already met another mandolin player! Spent lunchtime discussing techniques and favorite artists.

You got your bag from them, right? If I really get into this, I may have to get one of those. ;-)

The cracked whistle keeps disintigrating. It's pretty much unplayable now. Wah!

Sweet!

Oh, your Dad wanted to know if there are there any eligible drummers there. ;^)

Hey, I didn't say he was eligible! Just another mando geek!

But yeah...next week my mission will be to locate a drummer and / or bass player. Eligible or not. ;-)

*sigh* Well I've been listening to The Two Towers soundtrack all day and I think I'm going to be seeing it again tonight! I keep seeing the scenes that go with this music in my head and I just have to see it again!

By the way, how the heck do you post something without specifically replying to a particular post? I haven' t figured that out. What am I missing? Thanks!

I can't remember who here has high speed access...if you have any input, please let me know! I know this has been discussed before, and I should remember the details, but I don't.

We now have DSL available here in town (through Verizon). They have a special deal right now where it's $29.95 for the first six months, and fifty bucks after that - the fifty being comparable to cable prices in the area. What are the benefits of each? And does that sound like a decent deal? It has the speed listed as "Up to 768Kbps/ 128Kbps", which I assume is download / upload. What are the chances I'd actually get anything CLOSE to that?
