Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Storm is still well to the southeast of us here in Austin. Thanks for the geography reminder bear.... I need it! Good morning!
To: HairOfTheDog

Although one severe one cured me of wanting ever to see another. But I was excited and anxious to see the thing before it actually hit.

Seems I was the only one who noticed itWell, it is a gift, if there was a market for an alarm only 10 seconds in advance! - Push it up to a few minutes, and I would say you'd be pretty handy to have around in earthquake country! :~D

Hey at that age, ten seconds was plenty of time to get safely between both parents! ;-)
To: Sam Cree
I think seeing it once would be enough for me too.... The storm itself would be something! - I can't even grasp the damage done from pictures, I would want to drive it. Or fly it. Just once.

That is just cool Sam.... (the tree)

I knew a man with a wooden leg named Smith.
Really? What was the name of his other leg?

Heh....

Good morning!
Can see the leading edge of the storm on local radar... still about 70 miles away from us. Expecting rain to begin this afternoon, or early evening. But, we're on high ground, no chance of flooding at our house.
Wn, the more rain we get the lower my water bill is, so we'll take all we can get. ;)

Right around the corner from my house. The guys in the boat rode out the storm and were surprised when daylight hit to find themselves in a back yard.

But boy do they have a story to tell!
To: HairOfTheDog
I hope all our people will be ok this morning. I think they will be, but am keeping fingers crossed.

We all are hoping and praying for their safety..... This is a small hurricane as hurricanes go (easy for me to say!).... But most in that country have seen worse...
To: HairOfTheDog
'Course funny things can happen even in the small ones, though they are usually pretty survivable.
How do you think it is to fly through the big storms, like the Hurricane Hunters do?
I read where they had one of those planes just off the coast of Miami as Andrew came ashore, the guys said it was a rough ride, but they could see blue explosions going off on the ground, which they believed were from power transformers being blown off telephone poles.

Pretty amazing pictures Sam. We are inland enough that we usually don't have to worry about that much destruction. We mainly have falling trees and flooding to worry about. Richmond built a flood wall a number of years back because Shockoe Bottom (where the tobacco warehouses used to be, now shopping and restaurants) would always flood. They closed the floodwall after Fran (96), but I've never seen it closed.
No flooding at our house (other than my flowers and grass washing into the neighbor's yard). But we do have to worry about trees.
I'm still thinking the East Coast will see some major storms this season.

Gotta go for now; see y'all later. Have a great interview Corin!

Sigh...the trolls have scheduled a meeting for 1:00 p.m. Makes me nervous about my 3:30 appointment. It's just a 10 minute walk from here...but still...
