Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Whoa! I don't envy you having to do that. It wasn't at hard as we thought it would be. As it turns out, a firehose applied appropriately to a barracks... can move a heck of a lot of dirt and sand really quick. Takes care of the dustbunnies too. :-)
To: HairOfTheDog
I just wanted some exercise! I just wanted to give you a tough time about it!

What's so great is I just know that these flags will be heirlooms in the families that receive them...meaningful for generations.
Every time I look at mine, I'm so very proud to have been a part of the Hobbit Hole during this time!

I thought the box was empty at first. It was opened, The Post Office stamped it in red several times: Damaged, Received damaged, Received open, Inspected because it was opened, etc. I was lucky to get it. I'm glad the Post Office personnel who handled it were honest. I can't figure out why they didn't reseal it, though. They have tons of tape.
Ping me when you get yours, so I can cheer for you.

I shared the flag story with a favorite "anti-war" friend of mine at the office today. Even they thought it was pretty cool. Perhaps there is hope after all. :-)

In the usual backgammon room...
To: Ramius
My brother told me he's shared it with everyone where he works! Our story is out there!

Well, I didn't get one yet. But, if and when I do you can tell him this is me:

Oop! - On my way! Don't want to keep you waiting or you'll get picked up by some interloper!
To: Wneighbor
I'm sure you will, though. I checked and double checked the addresses!

I don't think that'll work on my carpet - do you? I'd be willing to try. Oh yeah... it works on carpet alright. Especially carpet. It's like a shampooing machine on steriods. Getting it to dry out before it starts smelling like a swamp is another matter, though... you have to depend on the inspection happening before the 36hr incubation period is complete...

And I bet you cry. Just the way it was folded...in a triangle, you know? Just broke my heart. I stood in the driveway holding it and crying. Steve stood with me and was very emotional too. We'd just got in from fishing and the box was on my doorstep.

Perhaps there is hope after all. :-) There is hope. As long as one of us remains alive. There is hope.
and we ain't gotta worry about them killin' us off as long as we've got the firearms.

hehehe... too true. That's what I keep telling him. I don't worry about "their" side winning: My side is the one with all the guns.
Somehow it doesn't seem to help the discussion, except in the that special sort of way.
To: Ramius
Getting it to dry out before it starts smelling like a swamp is another matter, I think this is the time to do it. It was 104 degrees here this afternoon. Low humidity. It'd be dry shortly.

There is hope indeed! I am excited to be among those who would receive such a thing... I was thrilled to be part of those that gave $$$ 2J did the hard part!
