The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Snopes is pretty cynical when it comes to stuff like that.
I was reading about the whole Three Men and A Baby "ghost" story on Snopes and they suggested how it was a bit suspicious how that whole rumor came out just as they were releasing the video.

I lived in Austin for a long time. Loved it! When did you live in Austin? I lived there from '78 to '84. I loved it too. But, it's a good thing I left.

It is a brick red with pair of hiking boots printed on it, and under the boots it reads "Not all who wander are lost"! Cool, THAT is one cool shirt!!! I need one like that!

So, ecurbh, can you stay long enough to say hello to Bay and FL for us all? Oh and check out the witch's circle for us? Let us know what its like out there?

"do you think PJ intentionally has Aragorn look like the "traditional" (western at least) images of Jesus?"
I doubt it, Corin, but since you mention it, PJ's Aragorn surely looks the part, so who knows?
I have no idea of what Jackson's religious convictions may be, although it would seem to me that he would generally be respectful toward the convictions of others. In your research for your paper, did you find that the Aragorn character paralleled in any way the life of Christ?

In your research for your paper, did you find that the Aragorn character paralleled in any way the life of Christ? I think there are some parallels that can be drawn. I haven't ever taken time to list them as such. But, I became a Tolkein freak long before becoming Christian. It has been interesting reading Tolkein in the years since because each time I read them I find new things that could be construed as Christian allegory, although completely aware of Tolkein's denial of this.

In your research for your paper, did you find that the Aragorn character paralleled in any way the life of Christ? I took it to the conclusion that Frodo was "The Deliverer" or the "savior" so to speak. Gandalf represented the "resurrection," returning from the dead, arrayed in white, etc.
Aragorn was the triumphal king at the "end of time." The final battled had been won, the evil defeated.
My understanding is that Tolkien was rather adament in denying any allegorical meaning in the books. Rather he said (and I've got the quote somewhere) that as a Christian, certainly his faith would influence his writing.
I dunno Sam. PJ and his team have been so careful with all of the details. I also don't know his faith (or if he has one). But I can't help but think that, even if they didn't intend this, they recognize the similarities, at least visually.

I moved there in 1985! Lived there till 1994. And yes, it's a good thing we left too. Tulsa is much like Austin, only much more conservative.
Still, there are times I'd like to go back to Texas...

My fridge arrived!! Just now! It looks great and is a hole cubic foot larger than my other one (the 25 year old one my mom gave me when she got a modern model).
Get this! It holds GALLON containers in the DOOR!
Woohooo! I'm hurling into the 21st Century, baby!
(No ice or water maker though...Not worth the cost...we just make our own.)
To: ecurbh
Whoa! Very cool. Maybe you can do a little hiking or camping while you are there! So, is this totally vacation or is business involved as well?

Aragorn was the triumphal king at the "end of time." The final battled had been won, the evil defeated. Precisely! Each time I read the book I see more evidence of Aragorn in this role.
