The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

That is funny. Maybe it's a common thing in that breed of dog? Gosh they are cute though. I just fell in love with her. I was so sad when I had to go back home!

VERY little, then. Yikes! Makes my dog look big, and she's about 10 pounds! I'd be afraid of breaking it!

Cute, tho.

Yep, dachshunds are natural burrowers. She'd much rather sleep UNDER a nice soft blanket than ON it. And if I leave my coat on the couch, she gets under THAT, too!

Did you see her pictures in my profile? Not the greatest, but there she is!

Yep...they're little. About the weight of a bag of flour. Maggie was a miniature poodle, not a toy...and weighed about 13 pounds. My mom has psoriatic arthritis and is starting to really get disabled from it, so she is going to have to have a light dog!

Oh that's funny! One of my cats likes to crawl underneath blankets all the time, especially if I'm under them. She doesn't sleep that way though.

There are definite benefits to small dogs, I know...but as clumsy as I am, I'd be...well...concerned about the little mite!

Not to mention the smaller the dog, the smaller the bladder! Not a problem if you're there, but would be an issue for me. My dog is OK for a workday, though she's dancing by the time I get home. Sometimes family members can stop by at lunch, but I sometimes wonder if I should hire one of the homeschoolers next door to take her out at noon.

Cute pooch! I love wienie dogs! LOL

When we get our puppy (I say our, because it's the closest we'll get to owning a dog and the boys are going to be playing with this one a lot!) I'm sure I'll post lots of pictures!

Hehehe. You should have seen her that time I had a new roof put on. Poor kitty must have cowered under the blankets all day.

Just found this over on TORN:

CINESCAPE Exclusive
Smeagol-to-Gollum cut from TTT
Serkis disappointed, but says next time

Dateline: Wednesday, January 8, 2003

By: MIKE WHYBARK
By: News Editor
Source: CINESCAPE reporting

CINESCAPE spoke with Andy Serkis in December about his role as Gollum in THE TWO TOWERS, and the actor addressed a scene that didn't make it into the film. His character Gollum was originally 'a creature very much like a hobbit', 'one of the riverfolk,' but was warped by the evil nature of the One Ring into the creature seen in the film.

Serkis says, "If I didn't know it was going to be in the third [film] I would be upset. You actually see me onscreen, which was going to be in this film, transforming into Gollum once he kills Deagol. You see this whole kind of descent into madness. You see him physically becoming more and more decrepit. [The] last stage is becoming the CG Gollum. Peter and Fran told me that wasn't going to be in this film. They thought it would play much better into the next one."

So it's not going to be in the extended, but in the actual ROTK? I can see it as a sort of flashback? Make you feel pity for the guy and understand better what the Ring is doing to Frodo? Then when the end comes, you just want to squawl because it's so sad?

I can just see it. FMM, I'm gonna be a wreck.

Now that should be an incredible scene. I can't wait!

I saw stills of that scene in a picture book of The Two Towers. They must have printing the book before they were done editing the movie? Anyway, it was just 2 shots of it. Showed them in a boat fishing I think.

Whatever happened to that scene of Eowyn fixin' to whack that orc...remember, we debated what it was she was hiding behind?

I'll have to check it out.

How did I manage without Peter Jackson? I just can't remember that previous life... I know, I'm pathetic, hehe...

I'm thinking that Serkis will get nominated for Best Supporting Actor just because of the novelty of nominating a CG, but it sounds like he will really shine in RoTK.

BTW, nice to meet you and welcome to our humble little hole in the ground.

I just don't want the Academy to wait to honor these fine films until the last one. That really burnt me up last year how FOTR got screwed big time. I could just see those idiots going "Well he has 2 more times yet."

Give credit where credit is due, dang it!

I'm on the imac (booted by the baby again) so I can't access it...but it was in one of the trailers...shows an orc and then it pans over and shows Eowyn holding up a sword, hiding behind something (I thought it was a horse carving...others thought it was just a tree) and it looks like she's fixin' to attack the orc if it comes any closer.

Does anyone else remember seeing that in the trailer? Ksen?
