The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

That's so funny. When Myranda was born my youngest brother had just married. His wife was real hoity toity. I had a home birth in my old farmhouse. No A/C - windows wide open. They came to visit the weekend after Myranda was born. I heard my very young s-i-l outside in the front yard saying how she couldn't understand even living in a house like mine much less giving birth! And I've always thought about my fresh clean sheets and bedroom that I knew HOW everything had been cleaned as opposed to all the unknown germy factors in even the most clean hospital!

My s-i-l has had 4 kids now and is much more down to earth, though not enough. She still freaks over handwashing, playing outside, touching animals etc. Her kids like me. I forget to consider those dangers. Although, their oldest is now about 16 and has taken on her mom's qualities. Poor thing.

Jill's first college roomate made a complaint to the dorm parents that Jill was unsanitary because she takes a glass of water to her bedside table at night and drinks from the glass as needed through the night and when she wakes up. The girl said she was a health hazard!

They moved Jill to a new room. Her new room was the penthouse of the dorm. And she didn't have a roommate then.

Yes, she seriously thinks it is better for her if she drinks out of a straw...she's a real piece of work.

No, as a matter of fact, I have always made sure I had straws on hand whenever they come over...as does my mother. Out in public, she always asks for a straw, even for her water.

The very best thing that ever happened with this girl was this...and I still love to think about it and laugh...

I invited them over for supper. Now both her girls only wear Laura Ashley and patent leather shoes. When I invited them I said "Be sure they wear something they can get dirty, we have a hole dug in the back yard to play in..." (Our soil is just like play sand.) She said and I quote "Oh, they never play in the dirt".

That evening, as the sun was sinking, I remember seeing her eldest daughter cavortin across my lawn, the setting sun showing the dirt flying in all directions off her! I pointed to her and said "Oh look! Isn't that cute? She looks just like Pigpen!"

Sis, I know how nasty hospitals are! I had my babies in the hospital, but as soon as I could I would get up and get FULLY dressed, so I could go home ASAP.

My room mate in college was a lesbian that beat up the dorm mother one night while I was out. I came home to find her on room-arrest with police outside my door!

They kicked her out of college and when she left, she stole all my Ronald Reagan campaign buttons. Sigh.

Yep, they are all pets. They hang around with each other, still in the pairs that we bought them in...Jar Jar and Roy hang around each other and the Buff Orpis hang around each other and both sets kinda stay near each other.

I'm off for the day too...gotta make a nest box for them. See you all later!

My poor college room-mate showed up after I had been there a few days and I had a room full of drinking people. Her mother was with her and was so horrified they went to a hotel and didn't stay..... she dropped her off again come morning, so I guess the idea of taking daughter back home wasn't a good one either. Poor girl had never been up past 10:00 on a school night let alone met anyone like us.... We got her drunk, gave her cigarettes and she was having a darn good time, but a month later her mother transferred her somewhere else. [shrugs!]

Had my nice and short bareback ride with Bay - just walked around without particularly telling him where to go. After about 10 minutes he came back to the gate and stopped, and I think I heard him say he was done... I had a good time.... I haven't ridden bareback for years, and I think I would like to start doing that a little, get my bareback balance back. I think I may even forego bridle next time and let Bay decide. Bay and I are going to learn to communicate in Elvish.

Is it me, or both of these stories 'broken'? Is Ain't it Cool News down? It is giving me an error - and the flash site, I got the menu page to load, but sat for 20 minutes waiting for the first part to start.... Sticklebats!

AICN's Quint on set - report 2!
7/06/03, 2:50 pm EST - leo

AintItCoolNews-reporter Quint is the most enviable man around at the moment. He got to spent a few weeks down in Wellington visiting the set during the pick-up shots for The Return of the King. His reports are now beginning to appear online. In case you missed it: a short introduction of some sort can be found here, and his first 'real' report can be read here! Be sure to check them out, but mind the spoilers!

LOTR:TTT in Flash!
7/06/03, 2:37 pm EST - leo

Some people obviously have too much time on their hands. The person who created the following must have been one of those people, but don't let that stop you. This person has made a one hour long flash movie of the Two Towers using nothing but stick-people! The movie is based on The Two Towers, but is a bit shorter then the 'original'. Be sure to check it out here!

Thanx to Someone for the heads up!

I'm back. I feel like I ought to go play in the dirt now. My neighbors are nice enough. They just complain about the pets. It ain't like livin' in the country where everyone recognizes the worth and value of a dog and a few cats around the house.

My poor college room-mate showed up after I had been there a few days ... ....but a month later her mother transferred her somewhere else. [shrugs!]

When I got pregnant in high school my folks made me leave home. The state of Texas became my parent and I lived in a home for unwed mothers. I did not want a room mate. I found creative ways to make roommates not want to live with me. Lots of girls are scared of lots of different stuff.

Do we think this mentality could be part of the reason for failed marriages?
