Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

My wife was scrubbing the tub in the kids' bathroom and the soap dish fell off the wall. I took off some surrounding tiles and it looks like there has been a small leak going in that spot.
It was right on a wall stud and a portion of the stud was black from the moisture. After having a fan on it the wood has lightened back up after drying out. However it smells moldy in there.
I'm afraid I'm looking at an expensive fix. I do have some friends at church who are carpenters so I'm hoping they will provide some professional assistance.....especially if I feed them. ;^)

Sounds like damage may not be that extensive, but I believe it is important to kill all the mold and mildew, if you can.

Hi Ruthy! Yes, I finally made it home. The flights were fine, though it was a really really long day. This business of no-smoking in airports has simply got to end.
Thanks to "the patch" I was successful in resisting the drive to claw my eyes out and throw them at the screaming children behind me. But how am I supposed to enjoy a beer at O'Hare waiting for my connection without a smoke?
Here's something that doesn't happen every day: When I landed at O'Hare I checked my voicemail, and there was a message from an employee that needed help with some problem with his e-mail. Where was he? In a bunker somewhere in Afghanistan. Too bad he didn't leave a callback number. Whatever it was had fixed itself, because I got an email from him later. Too bad... those are the helpdesk calls that make life worth living. :-)
I really enjoyed Miami. Dang... I sure look redfaced in that pic. I don't think it was the sun, either, but it was too early to be the beer... wasn't it?
To: Ramius
I love Miami. It gets a bad rap, and I guess deservedly so, yet there is no place like it in the world.

I have a prayer request to ask of you guys.
A good friend of ours grandson who is 7 is going to be having his 4th open heart surgery at the end of July.
He was born with out an aorta. They have been having to put bigger and bigger ones in as he grew, and balloon them out on a regular basis.
They thought this last time would be the last because he was finally big enough to have a full size one put in. He has been doing great.
When he went in for a checkup last week they found out that his body never stops healing which means he has scar tissue building up continuiously. The artery is now almost closed up. The doctors say some kids out grow doing this some don't. If he doesn't he will have to have this surgery on a routine basis. Ballooning doesn't work. I am worried about how many times a little body can handle having it's chest cracked open?
If you saw this little boy you would not know there is a problem except if he gets too active his lips turn blue, and he tires easy.
It's really a sad situation. Thanks for prayers.

Poor kid. Makes me realize (once again) how truly fortunate I am.
I'll keep him in my prayers.

I do have some friends at church who are carpenters so I'm hoping they will provide some professional assistance.....especially if I feed them. ;^)After you get rid of the mold (I think there are poisons for that), you might want to consider a repair for the wood. There are liquid epoxies intended to strengthen rotted wood. They penetrate the fibers and then harden. It might save you major reconstructive surgery.
Just a suggestion that might or might not work in your situation. Alternatives are always helpful.

He's Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaccckkkkkk!!!!!
Yes, Corin the obnoxious, boisterous, gaseous, but better looking and better smelling dwarf extraordinaire has returned. And here's the deal.
I've done a lot of thinking (and lurking) over the past few days. I get really tired of the bickering and the flame wars I encounter in the religion wars, the "war who must not be named" threads, and even the ACC threads. And, I spend way to much time on FR.
But I've always enjoyed being able to come back here and kick my boots off, sit back and have a pint (or two....or twenty). And, in doing so, I might rant, I might fume and I might say a thing or two that perhaps were better left unsaid.
But that's who I am. And that's my job. And if'n any don't like it you can BLOW IT OUT YER SHORTS!
If I say something with which you disagree, it's your right and maybe even your responsibility to let me know how you feel. But don't preach to me, I've got my own church. Don't reprimand me, I've got my own mother. Don't nag me, I've got my own wife. And don't pester me, I've got my own kids.
Well, that's the truth about men.
Yeah, that's the truth about us.
We like to hunt and golf on our days off,
Scratch, an' spit, an cuss.
It don't matter what line we hand you,
When we come draggin' in.
We ain't wrong; we ain't sorry,
And it's probably gonna happen again.
That said...is there any bacon left?
