The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Haha, you know I'm just teasing with all this stuff. By the way, I see that Mr. Bloomers is in some scary pirate movie that's coming out in a week or two. You're welcome!

I'm fixin' to post some updated Roy and Jar Jar pics...
Roy (the one ugly chicken) has turned out to have the prettiest plummage! Her feathers are mostly black, except for the brownish feathers around her neck...and the black feathers are greenish in the sunlight. Really quite pretty!

Hey... come on... its not really even a real party until the cops show up... :-P
But maybe this time I won't wake up under a table in a foreign country. I hate it when that happens.
To: Ramius
Hmm... I still have q's from this morning.
To: Ramius
There we go. All fixed.

I didn't think you wanted it go any further.Well, I didn't, because I didn't want to cause any hurt feelings either. And, I don't like to argue the point anyway, since there is little chance we'll change each other's minds. But, I don't want you to mis-interpret my point, either.
Only in fairy tales (which I admit LOTR's is)
See, that is my point: I think movie-LOTR could have remained a fairy-tale. Jackson and the writers apparently didn't. They made it more "real". My point is, I don't think it had to be more "real".
pleasing his father by bringing him a great gift is your spin on the scene
He says it in the movie: he tells one of his assistants to go ahead to Gondor, and to tell his father that "I bring him a great gift". Because of what I've read online about the relationship in the movie between Denethor, Boromir, and Faramir (that we haven't seen yet), my take is that Faramir is trying to win his father's favor. Maybe I'll be proved wrong. But, if I'm right, then it is different from the book, since Book-Faramir was willing to risk his father's wrath by doing the right thing and letting Frodo go.
Just because he didn't immediately turn Frodo loose, somehow he is diminished? Nonsense!
We disagree completely on this point.
And if Faramir is bringing the ring to Gondor, then he isn't afraid of it... he plans to use it.
Yes, at first. But then he sees the effect the Ring has had on Frodo, when he sees Frodo ready to offer himself up to the Nazgul. Perhaps by saying Faramir was afraid of the Ring I was being too harsh; perhaps "wiser" would be a better word. But, Book-Faramir started out wise. Again, something the movie didn't show; instead, they had to show "growth". Why couldn't he be wise to start with, in the movie?
I think we're going to have to agree to disagree. Faramir was a more important character to me than he was to you, so perhaps I'm being oversensitive about the changes made to him. I would have been upset if they had changed Smeagol, too, by the way; but, IMO, the writers and director portrayed him just right.

You mentioned that you didn't like the book Faramir all that well.
Why is that?

Was just funnin' ya.Sometimes I feel like someone jumps on me everytime I dare to voice even a minor complaint about the movies. Maybe the heat is affecting me.
Oh, and I liked the editing. ;-P

Like I said... I see your point...
I don't see our exchanges as an argument... but just two people telling each other why they disagree about a certain character in a movie...
I hang out in the Middle East threads.. those are cut throat.
Yes, he tells his assistant to go ahead and tell his father, "he is bringing a great gift", but my point was he wasn't doing it to "please his father," since he doesn't mention the pleasing thing. The way I read your post... I thought maybe you think that's a bad thing.
Anyone, it's the end of a long week. I am off!
I found this conversation very stimulating. It gave me lots to think about...

Please don't think I was jumping on you. You are welcomed to your opinion. You have every right to hold it and express it... Just cause I disagree with you doesn't mean anything.
We have an expression where I'm from... "My opinion and $1.48 will buy you a gallon of gas."
