The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

So actually the only time you noticed the problem was when you worked him, and by his posture at rest?? No sign of it when he was loose on his own? That is good, I would think.
This is just a suggestion, but I think I would give him a few days without bute, unless he is lame now, then work him. If you bute him now you won't know if it's the bute or the shoes. If he is lame now then bute him to get him sound but I would let it wear off so you know how well the shoes are helping.

My chickens have come into the garden, one is on the porch lookin in:), they are so funny. I think they know they are not suppose to be in there, cause if I walk to the door they go running down the sidewalk in a panic. It cracks me up. Chickens are so funny when they run. Reminds me of the TaunTauns(sp), in The Empire Strikes BAck.
I noticed that you said Lisa had 9 chicks. I don't care one way or the other, but did she put all the eggs in. I would have thought she would have had a better hatch rate. I am just puzzled. If she didn't put them all in that is OK, just wondering.

No, she put them all in...I saw them all.
I don't know what happened...she's still got them incubating...I'll find out more this morning. Maybe some of them were just late hatchers? ;-)
See you in a bit.

Yes, his lameness is really subtle, and worse lunging than on the straight.
People who had never seen him move before might not know he is lame at this point. He still is quite willing to move, and has a nice enough trot. I just know that underneath there, he used to have a *huge* swinging trot with a lot of suspension. And to me he looks to be not enjoying the movement as much. He doesn't play as much.
My line of reasoning was to give him everything in his favor, the medication, the shoes and the bute, and see if he is sound, if he is, then at least I know he *can* be sound, and I can see if he stays that way without the Bute.... I can, also start cutting back on the Ixoprine (however it is spelled!)
And your line of reasoning is sound too! - I can be swyed either way! I don't know what the best course is.
Need think about it and watch him today.

You know I am wondering, if the eggs I gave her had gotten to old. I have read they are good for 10 days. Some of the first ones I saved that I gave her may have gotten older then that.
This makes me think, those eggs I gave you to incubate, trash them. Since you only want to do a dozen or so, it would only take me 2-3 days to get that many for you. So I will not save some out to incubate till you tell me you have the incubator. Then we would know they were all as fresh as they could be.

No coffee? ;-)
I'd like an iced coffee right about now. I like coffee at just about any temperature, but when it's as hot as this...
REAL iced coffee...not a mix!

Not that you shouldn't be concerned, but he is 22 yrs old right. :), I don't like to play as much as I use to either:). Sounds like you caught the problem real early which should help. But some of his lose of suspension is problably just age.

I know! He's old. - That is why I looked at him so long this spring pondering if there was anything *really* wrong or if he was just generally slowing down!

I was so happy to find a mushroom omelet image this morning! LOL! It is such an adventure to figure out what to set on the table each day. :)
Oh yes, I did forget the drinks this morning.
