The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

...and I stop responding to people after their first rude comment to me. :)

Nip it in the bud.

I'm the mix.

Yes, and a spicey one at that! Carton, I always liked your middle east posts too, they were a bit more serious than we usually got, but for the most part you were singing to the choir. If you recall, the person who was disagreeing with your take, and making me nervous that there would be a big ruckus if it kept going, isn't hanging out here any more, (at least at the moment)

I know...

And I knew you were getting nervous...

It made me feel bad that I was at the center of the storm...

Just like it makes me feel bad that I am at the center of this storm...

And the sneaking storm...

I do like everyone here, but I firmly believe that there are no "rules" in posting except for those that JimRob set forth. But, that doesn't mean I'm an insensitive and selfish brute. That's why I quit posting on the Middle East and (almost) quit spamming...

Can't we just blame it on Gollum and be done.

wow.. and you said it so much better than i!

LOL! Not really. As I get older, I learn the fine art of giving less of a hoot about what people think about me and giving more of a hoot about what God thinks about me. :)

As far as I'm concerned, God has blessed me with the best group of friends I could ever have asked for. THAT's the God I know - He brought much love and hope into a life that had little.

Won't happen again now that I understand the way things are.

The things aren't *any* particular way.... We live and learn. We try to be at our best, but we don't always make it.

I think the point you were making was a good one, and the concept really is ettiquette, not rules... It is about valuing the peace, and valuing the people, more than an issue that might be contentious. I carefully consider when I take a stand on something or vent about something whether I want to risk hurting the people involved more than I worry about whether I would 'win' the issue.

I'll go with the "be done" part.

Got to go to Hialeah for supplies, back later, everyone.

I do the same thing usually.

Once the person has shifted from debating into name-calling, I brush them off as ignorant people who equate insults with intelligence.

I have a saying. It goes:

A lie must be spoken to exist. Truth lives unspoken.

Hey everyone. Grama went to be with Jesus last night at 7:30. I was by myself with her at the hospital. Which I liked. My mom, Grama's sister and niece had left to go eat. My dad had fixed a big bunch of fried fish for the aunt from Arizona because she said she misses fish fries in Texas. They left to eat it. I sang to grama and recited a lot of scripture and prayed. She moved in the bed and broke out in a real big sweat. It had been 9 hours since she had pain medication so it looked like she needed more. The nurse stuck her head in the room and she agreed. She got the morphine, gave her the shot, we switched the pillows so she wasn't lying on a sweat soaked pillow. I turned and told the nurse thank you as she walked out the door and when I turned back to the bed it was clear that Grama was gone.

I was okay. I called mom and am glad I got those first 15 minutes there alone. My friend Martha came up immediately too, though she lives about 30 minutes away. We got everything done that needed to be done last night with my mom and I came here to Martha's house so I could relax, laugh, cry and sleep without the dysfunctional family.

Jill, Myranda and the grandkids arrive from Germany at 6:30 tomorrow night. Funeral will probably be Saturday but maybe Friday. It will be in my home town, where Grama lived most of her life. Meridian. I will try to check in from there if I can. (There is no library or truck stop in Meridian) Know ya'll are prayin'. Thanks for that and the hugs. Corin, I will share good stories in a few days.

I'm finally getting around to using some of my plants! Some didn't take...gonna have to replant a lot of the herbs. But I have LOTS of dill and LOTS of mint. I made tabouli salad last night and usually have to use dry mint, but got to use fresh. Turned out excellent! Pretty, too. Tabouli's one of my favorite summer meals. Got it for lunch today. MMmf.

This is pretty close to the way I make it. I don't measure, though. And I usually top it with yogurt.

I think the fireworks stands must be showing up on the reservations. People are starting to light stuff off.

Gidget is unmanageable with even distant fireworks.... Two minutes of barking for every pop. I need to go to town *today* and get doggie downers to last a couple weeks.

I also need to enquire real friendly-like to my new neighbors to see what their 4th of July intentions are.

I used to be able to enjoy the 4th of July, now it is a worry.

Becky, do you have trouble with the horses on the 4th? - I don't really, now that I can close them in, when they could run and get up a head of steam, I worried. I give them Quietex powder only on the worst one or two nights.

Anyone else have dogs that are unmanageable? - Logan and Zulu never gave a hoot. I actually took Zulu and Logan to some of the big shows. Tried that with Gidget and it was a mistake.

Those pics put a smile on this Hobbit face. What really gets me is that they are grateful to us--when it is really us who are so grateful to them.

What a timely post, WN. I was just thinking about how trivial things can shake us all up a bit, but the important things bring us back together.

For the weight of your grief should be lessened by the joy of knowing Grama is with the Lord and that she is in peace, with no pain and best of all, with Grampa. :)

WN, your strength through this has been remarkable. May God bless you for it always. ((HUGS))

Love ya, chica!

Still praying...

Just had a weird thing happen! I was typing away when I saw movement out of the corner of my eye. About jumped out of my skin! A chipmunk walked into our office, bold as brass, and clear back to the corner where my desk is! The rest of the gang is out right now, so I guess he figured it was safe. I managed to shoo him back out, but not until he'd checked out every room here.

I was okay.

I am so glad for you that it happened that way.... Grama had peace, and it is good to hear from you that you are as good as you can be. We will keep praying for continued peace for the family WN!
