Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Well...there's just one problem with that. We aren't all on the same page on religious issues, to put it mildly. So in venting about someone on "the other side" of the argument, you may be inadventantly insulting someone here. That's why I don't talk religion here. I might come here and vent about other threads (though I try not to), but religion is a tricky subject.

I am very sorry, I was just confused as to the purpose of this thread. The horse topics did not involved attacks on people, I see a big difference, I guess you don't. I will just scroll past you from now on.

You write that you are trying to find out the "rules." In my opinion only, the rules are the one that jimrob sets. No profanity, no personal attacks, no racism or violence in posts.

I guess you could make a case that my post regarding the Calvin Gang was a personal attack, but I was just making an observation based on 2 years of posting with them and based on their own comments...

I have dropped subjects too (no more posting on the Middle East for me)... but to say that there are "rules" on what can be posted and what cannot be posted will always be a case of contention with me. And because I hold this opinion does not make me disrespectful of my fellow hobbits', elves', dwarves', and Gondorian men's feelings.

What is funny, is once Corin and I vented our spleen, we would have dropped the subject, feeling much better, I might add.

Venting about a thread is one thing, but venting about a person is another, especially on an open board on a thread like this. But I may have been confused about that, so I apologize for commenting in a censorshipish way. Won't happen again now that I understand the way things are.

I stay faaaaaaarrrr away from the religion wars because what I have seen in there is not what I believe God wants us to act like.

I don't care who thinks I'm going to hell and who doesn't. That's between me and the Lord.

I, personally, don't mind the venting since I'd rather they vent here among friends than blow up in the NES and get banned. I don't want any of my HHD friends banned because some idiot in another thread feels their theology is right or better - when in truth, the main characteristics in any true Christian I've met have been humility, kindness and unconditional love for the person (even if you disagree with their lifestyle, ie sin).

That's the closest I've come to expressing my feelings on the matter and now will continue with my normal behavior of ignoring virtually every thread on FR besides this one! LMAO!

Well, if the vent is about how the other person PERSONNALLY handles themselves regarding their issues, that's not a problem with me. I have ABSOLUTELY no problem with people on a different religious page than myself, as long as they can conduct themselves without calling names and being an idiot about it.

I can discuss it all day long, but as soon as they start showing a lack of respect, or resort to name calling and such, all they are showing me is that I want no part of whatever THEY are living.

And I agree, it does NOTHING to promote their belief, and they are hurting, rather than helping their 'cause'..

Friends can discuss anything, and also disaggree, as long as they do it in love and don't get defensive and abusive.

Works for me, anyway .....

Oh...I just do it on a per thread basis. When those flame wars erupt, I just skip comments from flaming posters.
