The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

But we aren't discussing "religion" we're discussing the professional religionists. We have never shied from calling a troll a troll.

I realize that. I am not speaking religion either, I am discussing professional Hobbiests:), and I don't have a problem with calling trolls trolls, as you know, but go over there and call them trolls and leave it there or at least ping them. Makes me wonder what has been said about me before I came:) This thread is not the place, or so I thought????

like lembas being Vanilla Wafers.

It's a crisp cake.

For thousandth time, it is like a flat cornbread!

Enough said? - No one need be offended. :~D

Well I'm not eating any lembas that's like flat cornbread. Cornbread should be fluffy!

I like fluffy, but fluffy is not practical for traveling, would mash or crumble too easily.

Found an injured dove in my front yard. Seems healthy except for an injured eye. I'm calling our local wildlife rescue.

As I said, I am new here, I am trying to find out the "rules" too. Is this sort of thing acceptable? I thought it wasn't. I enjoy the discussions that go on here. But I always got the impression that here, "hot topics" were avoided. I have been surprised and puzzled by some of the posts I have seen here since I got here. Mostly because when I touched once on a hot one I was tactfully told to let it drop. I did out of respect for others.

I apologize to you also if I offended. It was not a repramind. I was just voicing my opinion. There is no reason for you to leave.

Then if it's flat, it shouldn't be called cornbread...cornsticks, maybe, but not cornbread.

Yes...why a coincidence?

It kept flying into the side of our house, because it couldn't see, I guess. I ran over and caught it with gloved hands right after it hit the house, while it was still a bit stunned.

I'm calling these guys...

If it's flat, it should be cornbread pancakes.

Lembas are pastries made in a sandwich maker as pictured above! LOL!

As someone who is not even very religious, I probably shouldn't be giving my 2 cents worth to start with on this subject.

However,...some of these people (probably only a loud few), IMO, seem to think their word is the same as the Word of God. That gives them an awful arrogance, that I believe is even potentially dangerous to others. I don't see them as an embodiment of what Christianity should be about.

I don't see a problem with discussing them when they are not there around either, when the intent is not to hurt them, as it surely is not here.

However, most folks on this hobbit thread, unlike me, are very religious, and also, I have found, quite wonderful. So I have to figure that the rude arrogant ones in FR must be way outside the norm when it comes to what is called the "Religious Right." Religious folks I have known growing up in VA, for instance are the "salt of the earth," as are the conscientious Jewish folks I have met since marrying Jeanne.

As for the "Religious Left," which is becoming endemic, well that's another story, though it's hard to even regard them as religious at all.

Hoping not to have said the wrong thing.

To: All
Goodmorning everyone .. I have been slipping in quietly this week and picking up the breakfast crumbs. Haven't had much time to post.

Ahhhh, it was good to hear about coyotes, chickens, blue heelers, and spooking horses. Takes me away from my "citified" exsistance and brings back lots of memories. THANKS!!

Oh, and about the "religeous wars" .. it is a shame that some people get so caught up in arguing and bickering over the differences that all their "fruit" (love, joy, peace, patience etc) flies right out the window!! It amazes me how UGLY somepeople can get as they discuss their Lord.. Ironic, huh?

I also see nothing wrong with retreating to the 'safety' of your friends or 'family' and venting. It won't make me worry about posting. I know there are bound to be people that disaggree about me, don't like me, or talk about me behind my back.

Heck, I ain't skeeeeeered! lol

It's kinda nice to have a place to call "home". I have found myself retreating regularly to the HH just to see the familiar names. I'm still working my way in, and feel much like an outsider or 'long lost elfen cousin' but *I* enjoy the comfort of the HH.

Thanks for having me ............

Who died and made you hall monitor?

I skip over all the posts about horses and chickens 'cause they really don't interest me. Feel free to do the same with mine.

I hope they can take your dove... You will probably have to take it to them, they can't always come out. I took a baby robin whose whole nest fell out of a tree last year. They sent me a couple emails that it had done fine and they raised it for release. I gave them some money (a little bit) with the Robin though, so I am in their fundraising plan! I was flush with cash then, more than now.

I'll say! I missed that!

This is just a plain old Mourning dove, they live in our trees year after year, raise their families.

I'm taking it to a wildlife rescue sponsered vet, per their instructions. See you later.
