The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I like longer hair myself. Faramir would like nice in longer hair. Like PJ asks me about these things anyway.

A character called the "Mouth of Sauron" has been cast.... but that could be just a spokesman... perhaps the guy who rides out of the black gate with the mithril vest.

The "thumb of Sauron" will be played by Garth Brooks:

Ooohhhh! I can see it in my head already!

Something like the prologue - the scattering part I mean.

I don't like the idea...but I'll trust him.

I just like that awesome Eye!

Let me tell you, there were 20 people in the cinema yesterday when I went...all adults and they literally were stone silent! It was fantastic, although the cinema had the sound so cranked up (much to my deaf delight) and I could feel that Eye music vibrating my liver! LOL

Matthew's favorite part? When the elves showed up at Helm's Deep to help. He was obviously relieved! You should have seen him...he looked so relieved!!

Rose, I can't believe I missed talking to you last night. I was up, just doing housework and then reading. I am so excited about the mini-mini-moot. And you will have other women with whom to enjoy the battle scenes and the lovely elf-warrior action. You'll probably get dipped into our household's who's-the-best-elf-warrrior arguement though.

Anyway, I can't wait to see you!

Good morning! (It is still morning there, isn't it?)

using Bear's strategy tips, I creamed him

Hooray!

I keep getting to the Bronze age and getting stuck.

To advance an age, you have to build two different buildings unique to your current age. So, to advance past the first age (Stone Age?) you have to build a barracks and a dock, or a dock and a granary, etc. Then, to get past the next age, you have to build an archery range and a stables, etc. I'm not sure what buildings become active in the Bronze Age (it isn't the last age available, is it?), but when you get there pick two of them and build them. Then, once you have the required food and gold, you can advance. I hope I made that clear!

My brother had farms and such, but I never figured out how to do those.

I think to have farms become active, you have to have built a granary, and advanced past the first age. I'm going by memory here, and it's been a while since I played the original AoE!

Isn't this neat how all these mini-moots are popping up? It seems since TTT came out, we've just solidified our commitments to each other. We're meeting and planning and getting ready for "The End" together.

Corin needs to come back...it's not the same without him...

Were you worried about the boys during any of the parts in the film? Jacob sat on my lap and I held my hand up in case he needed to hide his eyes during: Frodo in the water of the Dead Marshes, the Uruk's talking about eating Merry & Pippen, and Theoden's exorcism.

He would hide his eyes for a second and then peek over the top of my hand or open my fingers a bit so he could look through my fingers. ;^)

So far so good, it's been over a week and there hasn't been a bad dream yet. Jacob had one after we took him to see FoTR in the theater for the first time.

We are in for the long haul now!

'The Ring-bearer is setting out on the Quest of Mount Doom. On him alone is any charge laid: neither to cast away the Ring, nor to deliver it to any servant of the Enemy nor indeed to let any handle it, save members of the Company and the Council, and only then in gravest need. The others go with him as free companions, to help him on his way. You may tarry, or come back, or turn aside into other paths, as chance allows. The further you go, the less easy will it be to withdraw; yet no oath or bond is laid on you to go further than you will. For you do not yet know the strength of your hearts, and you cannot foresee what each may meet upon the road.'

`Faithless is he that says farewell when the road darkens,' said Gimli.

You know 2J, it's about as far from where I live to Austin as it is from here to Tulsa. Someday, it's possible to meet halfway. If you were ever going in the direction of say... OKC.
