The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Letter from the Chaplain!
Below is a letter from the chaplain after receiving our last care packages...the boxes with the hygiene items. Also are some pictures of the Renegades! I cry every time I look at them. Check out how smooshed the packages are!
The Renegades received the final packages a few days ago and once again devoured much of their contents. I've attached a few pictures of my "battle buddies," paratroopers from the LTF, that I snapped that I hope are a blessing to you and the great Americans of the Hobbit Hole. I say again, "Operation Gratitude is underway," and as our great President and Commander and Chief (and fellow Texan) says, "We will not rest, we will not feint ..." (or something like that!)
Thank you for your continued prayers. Please continue to pray that we'll all make it home and for the reunions that they would be great.
Clay in His hands,
82d Airborne Division
Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan

The Packages

The insert says "This Care Package Compliments of The Hobbit Hole. At the bottom it says "Visit us at http://www.freerepublic.com

Digging into the packages!

Whew...I just caught 2 coyotes coming in to get a chicken before they got one. Just happen to see them from my chair looking out the front door.
Does anyone know the habits of coyotes? Will they be back the same time tomorrow?

Bay pinned himself against the back wall last night while I put the blue tarp over the hay.
He must have realized at some point during the night that the tarp over the hay was not going to kill him, he walked out this morning without incident.... though he did blow at it just to make sure it didn't jump on him.
Arabs are funny. That pony has no fraction of his miles of experience, yet she didn't think the tarp would kill her.

Will they be back the same time tomorrow? You betcha- unless there's a deterrent involved. Got any birdshot?
To: PayNoAttentionManBehindCurtain
Depends on how you interrupted them, whether they think it is worth the risk of coming back.... Did you make a big deal out of it? - I would make all kinds of noise and bring a barking dog on a leash - and if you have a really alfa dog that will pee on everything I would walk him all over your surrounds making noise.
They may be long gone.

I should say - they may be long gone for today, too far to hear your display.... I don't know about tomorrow. It really depends on how many other breakfast choices they have.

That mare I have absolutly freaks at anything plastic and flapping. I have tried numerous things to get her over it. I can't even wear a raincoat by her. At least Bay gets use to it:) I have always thought Arabs where jumpier about stuff like that, but then got use to it and was then fine.

That's great, 2J, really nice to see them smiling about it. Cool that you sent the picture inside the box.
Seeing those pictures just makes a great beginning of the day.
I remain in your debt for having the opportunity to participate, thanks!

I sure will! I'm also sending the email and all the rest of the pictures to the email list.
They look so delighted! It does sound like they are coming home soon, though, doesn't it?

I wasn't sure at first what I saw and got up and walked to the door, the coyotes just turned and walked away, and stopped at the end of the arena and looked back. I was quietly telling Mack to "GET THE GUN,:)". This is actually the 2nd time I have caught one in the morning. The first time it already had a chicken.
I think tomorrow morning we will be laying in wait, gun at the ready.
Will birdshot kill them? We're thinking 22. I want to kill one and hang it on the fence to scare others away. Isn't that what the old timers did? Or was that for wolves?

Arabs I think know they look pretty when they stand and blow at scary stuff, so I think that is half the motivation! ;~D
But that is why I waiting until he was inside to put the tarp over.... I wanted a captive audience. If I had put the tarp on while he was outside, it would have been a struggle to get him to walk in there. I wanted him to look at it all night before he had to walk by. The rubber mats in the aisle are only one wide, and he has to be careful to stay on the mats or he will slip on that concrete. I didn't want him to have a wreck.
