Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Well, there's always - horses. So long as he's not the type that wants to feed them to his tigers!

Grama may not be alive when I get there. The family members are who actually need the prayer.Well, I pray that when you get there, it is as it should be. I don't know what that is. 'cept I pray you and your mom can find some better way to be with each other, and I know that it is her I need to pray has a change of heart for that to happen.
We will be thinking of you while you are gone.... Don't forget the local library! If you need or want to slip away and check in, you can go there. Also, I was at our local truck stop last week and they had an internet kiosk there! Had to put quarters in it. It cracked me up!

It is especially hard for those who struggle with their belief in God. They aren't sure, or don't believe their loved one is in a better place, so it is a bitter time for them. Suzi, you are so right about that. When my grandfather died I did not know Jesus. I was devastated. I could not get over losing him. I know that Grama knew Jesus all my life but Pepaw was quiet and didn't talk much. The first time I talked to Grama after I received Christ I asked her about Pepaw. :-) HE IS THERE waiting for her!!! They are such a cute couple.

Well, if you can't play it at the service, perhaps you can just find your own private place to sing it to her once in awhile, to show her you got the message.
I agree about the service, I wish I could help with your mom, but I just don't get it.
I wouldn't be surprised if the church organ player has the sheet music for it or knows it. Maybe she will sneak it in to the processional.

You can chuckle now. We probably won't have an organ player. My aunt Billy plays the piano.
scuse me, gotta add g'nad to this.
Aunt Billy will likely be playing the piano. Grama's favorite song for Aunt Billy to play is the Marine's Hymm. I wonder................
no, it just would not be appropriate. (but grama made aunt billy play it at my cousin Ricky's wedding reception.)

Oh, I have an idea. I will be the one responsible for keeping up the gravesite. I have my spot already made available right next to Grama. The words could end up etched somewhere around the place.

Wonderful, I approve! - that is the inscription on my mom's gravestone, actually, with a picture of Mount Rainier. I was just looking though, and I am surprised to find that I have never taken a picture of it. Will have to do that.

I just got a great gift. I have been thinking that its sad because in the last few years Grama hasn't taken a good photo. She is always pasty white. But, I got some photos back from Sam's this afternoon and there is one from Christmas of her and Myranda where she has good color and a smile.

Sorry you guys are having tough times. But you are lucky to have faith, so everything will be OK.

Great! Funny you should say that a photo was a gift. I was just lamenting the other day that I seemed to be missing a lot of old photos of Zulu and Logan. I just couldn't find many, and in looking just now through some old photos looking for one that might show Mom's headstone, I found this photo:
I am so thankful for scanners.... the negatives for these things would be long ago lost.

LF: as they say, you are right, sir. I was in AZ on the Sitgreaves 1970-1973 and a few really big ones. The slurry bomber base was in Winslow AZ in those days. The bomber we usually saw was a B-17, that was an impressive sight, made us ground pounders really happy. One fire at Woods Canyon Lake, the bomber lined up on my little pumper pickup (beats me how I ended up at the head of the fire, but I did-well, I was younger and quite enthusiastic in those days-lol). Had a pink truck after they were done.
Don't know if any of them are still flying, we only used helicopters for the helitack crews and observation.
Usually the only water was in your canteen slung on your back. But when it was available we used it.

Remember when I was telling you about the grapes that used to be at the beach house? - And how we took them out?
Found a pic that shows me feeding the geese at the beach house, sometime long before the remodel... Look at those unruly vines on the right! - They were unmanagable in that location, and took over the whole railing and top of the boathouse. They had to go, they were more hassle than bounty. We decided we could just buy grapes! :~D
See the before and after:

You're so right! There are SO many habits and hobbies that would be SO much more destructive.
My eldest has got his heart set on the new Lizardmen army. We'll probably get a small set and a starter set of brushes and paints for him sometime next month.
His big "project" right now is writing a story. He's made up his own dragon-man type creatures, been drawing them for a couple of years. Now, he's writing a story. Vocabulary, reading comprehension, penmanship, and typing all rolled in to one homeschool project.
On the way home from church on Sunday, he came up with his next plot twist. There's a bad dragon that's stalking the hero dragon-man character. The bad dragon is going to overhear an angel speaking to our virtuous hero, and a la St. Paul be converted on the spot from his wicked ways. He's going to go back to his homeland, build the first church, and become the Apostle to the Dragons.
Pretty cool. Wouldn't get this kind of stuff in public school. :-)

WN: sorry to hear about your Grama, but a peaceful parting with loved ones present is a gift, plus the memories and keepsakes of those who have left us, keep them with us always.
As far as in an internet connection, try a nearby truck stop, I'm seeing them in a lot of them these days. I see salesmen types, truckers and travelers (young 'uns mostly) using the booths.
Our thoughts and the spirit of the fellowship go with you.
To: osagebowman
as they say, you are right, sir As a shmarty-pants, I'm just glowing in the praise- thanks. I just love fires. I don't mean that in some sick pyromaniac way, they are just fascinating in every aspect. From the oxidation reaction to the thunderstorms they brew up. And putting them out is such a RUSH.
I recall reading not too long ago that the envirowackos were suing USFS over use of the slurry. Seems it kills fishies when it gets into the streams. :( Can't win with that crowd.
