The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

It's warm enough. They are on our porch at night and it stays in the mid 80s out there mostly. They seem to be doing fine without it, even though they are only a week old!
They are outside all day long in that little mini "cooplet" with a burlap bag over one end to give them some shade. It's plenty warm enough.

Yeah, it is the one with an amazing dog in it. I don't see how anyone who likes dogs could resist this book. But I did recommend it once to our preachers wife. LOL, that was a mistake. As I said you have to overlook Vince, and some of the language. It's not really that bad, at least I don't think, but I guess if your the preachers wife it might be. How picky are you about stuff like that?

I have a desk lamp that I use, if you need it let me know.

Hi Wordsmith!
I'm very glad to hear that you and your family are doing well. I checked your new Christmas pic. Your boys sure are getting big. They are a very handsome bunch(whew! they take after Mum! ;^) ).
I'll pray that your freelance stuff takes off for you. Just don't forget us "little people."
Let me know if Lysander makes it through the whole series.
As far as computer games go, I am currently playing Age of Kings II and Starcraft (an oldie but goodie). I haven't played too many of the D&D type games. My wife is D&D shy so I do my best to keep those types of games away from the boys. Maybe when they get older and can understand a little better.
Well, don't be a stranger for so long next time!

I finished the Terran campaign in Starcraft last night. The last mission was very tough. The computer kept sending out these "ghost" soldiers to disrupt my camp and vehicles.
All I have to say is, "In space, no one cares if you go thermonuclear."
I think I ended up using close to 20 nukes on the main enemy encapment before I could send my vehicles in without getting demolished.

Have to tell you about my batch of chicks. You know I turned them out last week. Sometimes they wander over into the stall next to theirs. Lot's of horse poop to scratch in. Anyway, when they get over in that other stall, it's like it takes them a minute to figure out how to get home, they run up and down the wall peeping. I can hear them clear in the house. I've walked out there several times to see what the fuss was, make sure nothing was getting them. There will be one or two freaking out because they can hear their buddies on one side and they are on the other but can't figure out how to get back over there.
I didn't really expect them to wander that far so soon, but they seem to be doing fine.

I am not worried at all about that kind of stuff, except possibly for getting in trouble on this thread for using bad language. If I was a dwarf, I wouldn't even worry about that.
Ok, I'll pick it up.

I think I got close to the end, but didn't quite reach it! It's been so long that I can't remember clearly... I just remember that the mission was very difficult, and I could not get past it no matter what I tried. So I gave up and started playing the other two campaigns. :)
To: Corin Stormhands
Actually, it was meant as a compliment to dwarves.

Thanks! Nice blog! I'm thinking about getting myself one of them there blogo-thingies, but the upkeep is intimidating.

Which is the best AOE to start with? Just "Age of Empires"? Thanks!
To: Wordsmith
Thanks. Webcrimson isn't bad. But I'm concerned that they will implode. They haven't updated their site and don't respond to inquiries. I'm hoping to move soon, perhaps to my own domain.
I'm outta here folks! See you tomorrow!

Thanks for the encouragement, this sounds great. He's a very good pen-and-ink artist at 11, better than I could ever hope to be. So I'm hoping that fine-motor skill transfers over to miniatures. Back when I gamed as a kid, up until about 1986, the figures were very secondary to the game. I didn't realize until we visited a Games Workshop store at a mall a couple of weeks ago that the whole Warhammer deal is built around incorporating the figures in to the game. Perfect for a kid like mine who is as much or more in to the "collecting" aspect than the game itself.
My 16 year-old brother is also a little in to miniatures. He's even more in to the fringes of the SCA scene. He and his girlfriend take archery together, and are going to be working at King Richard's Faire this summer. We're going to try to go, would be a first for us.
