The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Mmmm! That does sound good! I don't have some of the stuff it calls for...so if I fix this tonight, I'll have to go to the store. So it just depends on if I get to the store.

I did save it!

Who'd a thunk squash would kill a thread?

if yer grillin' the chops, just chop a couple of squash into 1" pieces. stir in a tblspn or two of pesto to coat. wrap in aluminum foil pouches and throw it on the coals a few minutes before the meat. serve sprinkled with blue cheese, gorgonzola, or feta, whichever you prefer... it's quick, easy, and quite tastey... cleanups a breeze... one of myall-time favorites...

The weather is so nice (upper 80s), I made this little brooder box for my baby buff Orpis that are about a week and a half old. They like being outside, scratching around, so when we are out there (which is almost all day), we put them in this when we aren't sitting right with them.

I put a burlap bag over a corner of it. The burlap bag gives them some shade and something to get under...since they seem to like getting under things and will get under our legs if we're sitting on the ground.

They also have their food out there and their water...they poop right on the ground, keeping the litter in their brooder box cleaner for them to sleep in at night. I bring them in at night to sleep, of course, or whenever we leave.

The outdoor brooder matches the COOP.

I made it! All by myself. I took a piece of siding leftover from when we repaired our leak, an old 2x4 and just nailed it together. Used a skil saw and everything!

Matthew told me that he was going fly f-16s when he grew up...I told him if he did, I would paint a great big f-16 on our shop. He told me I better paint a great big hotdog on there too...because people would stop by to see the painted f-16 and they would be hungry for a hotdog, probably.

*chuckle*

There's a marvelous museum in Pensacola that he may just love. The Museum of Naval Aviation I think it's called. Planes and jets everywhere- and quite a few the little'uns can crawl all over and explore. Some of the student aviators are docents so Matthew could talk to a real fighter pilot if he wants. Neat place. I'll try to find a link.

It's a great museum. I didn't get to spend nearly as much time there as I wanted. You could easily spend a whole day there.

><> I thought the movie was, to a certain extent, looking down its nose at the characters. <><

I agree .. however that's what makes it so funny. When we were at our next dogshow discussing this movie we all agreed that it was initially insulting but this guy definitely grabbed and then EXPANDED on some very stereotypical dogshow personalities. We had to agree that we know SOMEBODY that EACH of those characters reminded us of ..

There's another movie "Waiting for Guffman" that has all the same cast .. that makes fun of community theatre people. The "hound dog guy" is the over-the-top gay director ... it's pretty funny too.
